Yes, I remember being told to clock out whenever we took a break, or even doing something like answering a phone call or going to the restroom, because staying clocked in when not actually typing would lower our line counts. Finally during the last couple months that I worked there, since I live in California and California requires employers to allow employees to take two 15-minute paid breaks during an 8-hour shift, Nuance implemented a time clock code just for California employees where they clocked out of "regular" and clocked in as "break period" (or something like that).
