Please don't fall into the "age limitation" mindset. I was 58 when I got out of MT and had multiple non-MT job offers. You are correct in that a 4-year college would put a damper on things if you want a big career, then want to retire. Wouldn't seem worth the money to me.
I would not set your sites on the MT field or coding.
Not sure where in your 50s you are, but maybe a 2-year tech program for mammo, respiratory, x-ray, etc., if you're in your early 50's. Late 50s? Perhaps just something clerical to hold you over until you qualify for SS Retirement. That's what I did.
Good luck! To get good in MT, it takes a lot of blood a guts. Years ago, it was worth it. Now? Nope!
