The data is sent encrypted. I felt perfectly safe sending my info there, more so than I would going to some tax preparer who might not even disclose if they're offshoring my data to India, e.g.
If a major issue for someone, they could call and see if PCs for People would accept a tax return with the SS# obscured, but I felt totally secure with the encryption set-up and didn't bother. Also, there are other non-SS# forms of eligibility proof that can be sent, such as Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), etc.
