To clarify age you can collect...SM - Old Anon

For FULL SS benefit, it's 65-66, etc. For partial benefit, you can collect at 62. I started collecting at 63 because I was laid off from in-house job when they outsourced. As far as the other scenarios mentioned by other posters, those are also options. I don't know the rules about SS Disability, what age, how to apply, how difficult it is to get, etc. SS's website would have all that info.
