It's not a dying field at all. Most hospitals still use in-house MTs and will always have "humans" reviewing medical records. It's the companies that hire and use at-home MTs that take advantage of pay. The good "at-home" MT jobs are all going away. Thankfully, I have been at a great one for 6 years doing QA, although the pay could be much better. I am changing careers soon and doing coding. The pay is double what I make now.
