If you made 8 cents per line in 1998, today you should be - making 12 cents per line.

How do I know that 8 cents was paid in 1998?  That was the year I took over the regional office of a company and had to figure out why we couldn't hire and retain decent MTs at 7 CPL.  
One of the things I did was what are called exit interviews and overwhelmingly the answer to "Why are you leaving?" was "for better pay." 
It didn't take much other research to discover that 8 to 8.5 cents was the range where we needed to be.
If you remember what you were making in the past, you can check out the link below to see what you should be making today NOT to do better than you were then, but JUST TO KEEP PACE in terms of the same buying power, based on inflation between that year and now.
