I think it may be a true restructuring. It may be that they are going to use IC's or they lost a major account or a bunch of them. I worked on a globally-recognized hospital that was unhappy with them and my supe was reassigned. Or maybe, like they did one of the other times I worked for them, they have been doing some fancy accounting that just caught up with them. Its something, I'm sure of it. A few days ago, someone else who was a long-time employee was laid off and posted it here. She was completely blind-sided.
I was there when they forced everyone to go from IC to employee and a lot of good MTs left.
Finally, they are all in a race to the bottom. It isn't possible to produce 100% accuracy 100% of the time. Not for us, not for legal documents, not for anyfreakingthing not edited by a very expensive editor. The hospitals know this and they don't care, the services can chew off their own legs in an effort to get there and the hospitals are none the worse for wear. But our lives are turned on end.
I worked for them for 12 years off and on, this time for 1 year. I was at 99.75, tier 3, 200 lph. But my manager was just reassigned recently. This is how they all do it. I was an editor for SGS who lost an account, helped clean it up with a group of 15 that had no idea they were going to be laid off after a certain date -- right before Christmas. It was appalling.
I have 10 years to retirement so I'm at a rough age to be hired. As someone in a similar predicament noted recently, "They have to hire all the 20-somethings, the 30-somethings, the 40-somethings, then they'll hire us." But the economy is good and there are a lot of jobs out there. But here is the thing. Mmodal wants someone to do a $25/hour job for $13.50 an hour. In my area, almost ALL jobs are better than being an MT for MModal. If I can get hired. We'll see.
