It is also extremely unprofessional and bad management to blame not being paid on time by the client.

Client financial relations are not the employee's or ICs responsibility and any delays should not affect the an employers responsibility to pay their employees or ICs timely and as contracted.

Honestly, if you are feeling this way and have contacted the former employer, there is must be a strong gut feeling that something is amiss and it may be more than the payroll.

Personally, I would trust my gut and go with what you know is a sure and reliable deal.
