How do you write an age of a value where the dictator says

It is written 110s - kb

Like when they say the blood pressure is in the 110s over the 70s. That's what I have always done.

I do that as well, 110s/70s but I also - write 1-teens SM

[ In Reply To ..]
when that is dictated.

I type 1-teens, 110s would not be correct - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If they say something is in the 1-teens, what they mean is something between 113 through 119. But if you write this as "110s", you are also including 110, 111 and 112.

So if they dictate "one-teens," I always transcribe as 1-teens.

Yes, I believe kb is incorrect in her - answer NM

Nope, 110s is incorrect - sm

"one-teens" has a different meaning than "one-tens".

If a dictator says "one-teens" and you type "110s," you are not transcribing what was dictated and are typing something that has a different meaning.

If they dictate "one-tens," then transcribe as "110s"

But if they dictate "one-teens," then transcribe as "1-teens"
I Agree. Type as Dictated. - MT

I type as dictated. He or she didn't say 110s. It's probably all the same, but in my opinion, it's not a good idea to get in the habit of changing stuff like that.

This whole platelet count thing, too. If they say 224, I don't type the three zeros after it. I'm always afraid I'll get in the habit of adding zeroes somewhere--like if the dictator said platelets droped by 224 points, I might type dropped 224,000 points by mistake.

incorrect - see message

The word "teens" comes from "ten". Thus, 110 and over is the teens when we talk about numbers.

Hopefully you are not being serious - teens is not tens

[ In Reply To ..]
The word "teens" does not come from "ten." It comes from thirTEEN, fourTEEN, fifTEEN, etc.

If you have a 10-year-old child, would you call them a teen? Of course not. You would call them a pre-teen. Same with an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old, they are pre-teens. They become a teen when they reach age 13.

The terms "one-teens" and "one-tens" have different meanings. Yes, the meaning of each is close, but they are different. And if you are using them interchangably, then you are transcribing something that is different from what was dictated.

If the dictator says "one-teens" transcribe as 1-teens. If they say "one-tens" transcribe as 110s.
kindly review what I actually wrote - and see message

Please note that numbers are not children.

The combining form "teen" is an inflected form of the root of "ten":

I give up, do it your way - teens is 110s
[ In Reply To ..]
Because this is not a matter of entomology and where words have originated from. This is a matter of real world usage and transcribing what the doctor dictated.

These two terms, 1-teens and 110s, are not that much different in meaning anyway, so I doubt that you'll seriously compromise a patient's care by transcribing 110s when the dictator says 1-teens.

As for me though, since they do have slightly different meanings, I'll continue to transcribe as dictated.

Hi, eveyrone. I just started as an MT in Michigan, and I am going to be working from home fairly soon. I am moving back to New York for my music degree and transcribing in my free time. Problem: I have a very old laptop that is starting to fall apart. The keys don't always work and, although it is my baby, I can not keep using it for transcriptions. My boss had said he heard that we could write off a new laptop as an expense (much as flight attendants can write off their own laptops and mak ...
