beta blockers - 1mt

Posted: Jan 15, 2010

I would like some input on the correct way of writing this:

beta blockers or beta-blockers

beta blocker therapy or beta-blocker therapy

I see it both ways and have typed it both ways.  Thanks in advance for everyone's opinion.

I never used hyphen until my new job and was told it - was with a hyphen. NM

not hyphenated when it stands alone, hyphenated when - it is used as a compound modifier. sm

The patient is on beta blockers (not hyphenated).

The patient is on beta-blocker therapy (hyphenated).
