It seems to be that it might be illegal to say you cannot request time off unless you have paid leave.  Does anyone know this?  This Nuance company is really awful now it seems to me anyway.  I do not plan to stay here long, too many changes since the takeover.  Bad changes.

Like we live our lives for Nuance first everything else second? I don't think so. Why do they care if we want time off with no pay? Never been an issue at any other company I have worked for before until this one. Nuance is constantly on our backs for one thing or another. I am not a complainer but with Nuance I have become one. Time to say goodbye.

I work 30 hours a week and fulfill line requirements and am considered part time and have no more PTO accrual. Doesn't seem right.

It's not fair! I would rather have no PTO, it seemed to work better with that policy with the other company. No time off unless you have PTO and you only can acquire up to 4 days off a year working PT seems ridiculously unfair and actually irrates the heck out of me. Looking for a better company, there must be one out there??? Shame on Transend and MDI for selling out to this.

I will have to dig out the employee handbook and see. Our manager says no time off request will be approved with no PTO available, strictly enforced so she says, time off without pay not allowed, you have to make up time. This is not always possible to do and maybe I don't want to make it up! And what happens if you need time off and don't have PTO, do they fire you?

Here's what the Employee handbook says:
PERSONAL LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Employees may be eligible for a Personal Leave of Absence of up to 30 days. The maximum amount of time that will be approved is 30 days in any 12-month period. Personal Leaves of
Absence must be requested in writing and approved by your manager and Human Resources prior to leave. All eligible PTO must be used during the leave time.

This is changed from my last handbook from Focus and from previous policy where you could take unpaid leave after taking all of your PTO.

I have an issue with this myself currently, and I will have to see what is decided. If they will not agree to this, that will be reason enough for me to quit. If they do not value my contribution the the company enough to grant a few hours of UNPAID leave, I am better off looking elsewhere for work.

This is a game changer for me.

I agree. It seems like here lately PTO is not yours. It belongs to them. Even an hour flexibility is denied. It will definitely be the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Asking for PTO on weekends is usually denied unless someone covers for you. Even if you are willing to make up time. Denied. Denied. Denied. Sounds like a credit card company. Denied

Last year, after working several months, I had 3 days of PTO. I took 3 days off (had out-of-town company) and when my 3 days were up, I just could not make myself go back to work. I have never disliked a company before as much as I do this one.

I took 5 more days off w/out notice. I searched for a different job, but since I couldn't find anything, I decided to see if I was still employed by Nuance. I logged in, started working and no one ever called me or emailed me to say WHERE THE HECK HAVE YOU BEEN FOR A WEEK?

So.....screw 'um. If you need time off, just take it. You know, Aunt Sue died so you have to go out-of-town to the funeral. wink, wink.

In my region only 1 person can be gone over a weekend. Considering there are more than 40 MTs - that pretty much covers most of the year! Not only that - no flexing time for any personal reason now. I didn't know I signed up for slavery.
