nuance pto?? - texas tx

Posted: May 22, 2012

In house just got outsourced to Nuance.  In our meeting, they said the PTO is 10 days total, which you have to use for holidays and sick time as well.  So, if you take all 6 holidays (if that is even possible), you get 4 days off a year?  Not even a week for vacation left over.  Someone asked if that changes with time of service and they said no, that will never go up.  ARE YOU KIDDING?  Is this what the rest of you get for PTO, or is this just something they have started for new employees?  They said we will hire on with our time of service intact, so this is not just for a newbie, 20+ years experience and many weeks a year off where I am.  I haven't accepted the position yet, just wanted to see if that sounded right.  There were many people asking a lot of questions at the meeting and I am hoping the recruiter just either misunderstood the question or didn't take into account that we are hiring in with years of service intact.  Thx!

You expect to get a holiday off? Most places want at least 1 weekend day in your schedule and if the holiday falls on you day to work, guess what??? All of the MTSOs are 24/7 if you are an MT. Do you think that the dictation for a rush report in the middle of a holiday is going to wait until the holiday is over. Don't think so. People are still getting sick EVERY day and there is always 1 or 2 rush dictation that needs to be done.

So yep, pretty much the recruiter was pretty much right on. Maybe if you are willing to take vacation without paing paid, they might let you go and they are not too busy.

There will be major slowdown times during the year, but will still need a few good MTs to be there just in case they do get a few reports in to be transcribed.

Been bought out several times. So you think 20 years service time means anything to them???? Welcome to the real MT world outside the walls of an inhouse job. May want to consider a different job or career totally at this point. Your pay scale will probably be dropped way down too eventually. I have 37 years experience and service, but I make less now than I did in 1987 and half of what I did 5 years ago.

Think about your decision really, really hard.

Wow, this is sad. Yes, I work for a large hospital and I realize urgent notes need to be done, but why schedule the entire staff to work all day on a day when very little transcription comes in when you could do your employees a favor and let them spend some time with their family? The hospital offices are either closed or with skeleton crews, why does transcription need to be fully staffed for a few if any urgent notes? I do expect to work some holidays, but the way they put it, it is just another work day to them. Where I worked, they just assigned you 2 holidays a year (with a partial staff you can cover all the holidays and let people have time off), with PTO for the ones you didn't get, and you just got on and off to make sure the stat reports were caught up and stayed at home and on call for anything urgent.

Only 10 days off a year to start out, ok, but to have years and years in and not get any more or be able to earn it is a joke. I have never even heard of any company that does not allow for you to accrue more PTO for being a loyal employee for years with them.

With the enormous cut in pay (thank God I don't need the insurance there!), loss of significant amount of PTO, 8 hours every single weekend (used to 6 every other, again smaller staff on weekends), I don't know why anyone would take the job, or maybe take it until you find something else.

I have been looking and have a couple of interviews lined up, not with MTSOs. Unless there is some way they could possibly have worse PTO/schedule (I know the pay is better), I think it will be best to PASS!

Acquired - Nuance MT

[ In Reply To ..]
My company was acquired by Nuance last year. Our years of service were grandfathered in. They took away all our paid holidays. We only get PTO (no sick time, holidays, personal time, etc.). I think if you have 5+ years in you get 112 hours of PTO but never anything more than that. You are required to use your PTO also if there is no work on your accounts or if you have any downtime (platform down, internet down, etc.). I was told you are not allowed to take any time off if you do not have PTO, but apparently this depends on your manager. I was also recently told that if you take Thanksgiving or Christmas off you are required to work the other one. If you are short on hours due to no work during your shift or other circumstances the only time you are allowed to make that time up is from 6 p.m. Friday night to 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

Things are pretty ridiculous here. If you have the option of going somewhere else, that is what I would recommend. I would try hard to get those jobs that are not with MTSOs if I were you!

Confirmed with a coworker that the 10 days is all we will get and all we will ever get. It looks like you at least can earn 4 more days a year, almost a week, so that is better than what we were offered.

I really don't understand how they stay staffed. Is there high turn over here? I have seen many complaints about being out of work.

If you are with this company, what is the benefit in staying? I'm not trying to come across as snobby or rude or anything Maybe your pay and/or benefits are better than what they are offering these days? I am truly curious what you like about Nuance that is keeping you on board.
what keeps us here - not sure
[ In Reply To ..]
Everything is basically the same anywhere and eventually all MTSOs will be bought out by the big M or Nuance so why not just stay where you are. Have tried them all, IT IS NOT GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE. Need to just GET OUT TOTALY, but after I get another career under my belt and all the classes to get the job, who will hire a 61yo with no experience?
Why have I stayed? sm - shipaddict

I have been with Nuance for 16 months, been doing tranx for 13 years total. My pay has been steadily going down and down for the last few years. I recently decided to get out of transcription altogether and have been going to school for HIM. I really have enjoyed working for Nuance (first company I actually got benefits with and I'm treated with respect by my bosses), so I intended to stay with them for the next 2 years until I got my degree. However, I was forced to also start doing VR work about a month and a half ago. My last check was HALF of what I would regularly get when I first started. I am simply not making enough money to live on, so having benefits here really does me no good whatsoever if I can't pay my basic bills!!

So I'm really afraid I'm going to have to jump ship. I have an interview Friday with another company. I would LOVE to just get out of tranx completely, but after doing this for 13 years, what other options do I have? I'm not trained for anything else that makes more money. :(

And as far as benefits go -- you begin accruing vacation time from day 1. Full time earns 40 hours the first year, 80 hours years 1-3, 96 hours years 3-5, and 112 hours after 5 years. If a holiday falls on your regularly scheduled day, you're required to work, but you get a 25% line count differential.

I totally agree. - beentherestilldoingthat

keeping fingers crossed - texas tx

[ In Reply To ..]
Well, I will keep my fingers crossed for the couple of interviews I have coming up. The pay is better than Nuance is offering, and if the rest of the package is decent (don't think they could be any worse really), I will hopefully be the best candidate for at least one of these jobs. If not, I guess I will switch over to Nuance so as to have continued work, but I will not accept that this is the best that is out there for me, especially as I already have two possibilities in the works.

Like one of the previous posters mentioned, it may be time to get out of transcription all together, though I do believe that if more of us were able to find better positions and leave some of the MTSOs, they would have to offer better working conditions. I mean, is it really the same everywhere to only give 10 days of TOTAL PTO and never give you the chance to accrue any more? Goodness, I hope not!
I would consider also looking at taking a job in the hospital - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I would take a job in the hospital other than transcription if there is an opening that you like or are qualified for. When Nuance took over my hospital pay was cut almost in half and benefits are terrible. I am an older MT also so would do anything to get another job somewhere else in the world.

One thing you are forgetting when you mention - few patients, skeleton staff

[ In Reply To ..]
on holidays etc. You are currently working for one facility. With Nuance you will be 1 of thousands of employees transcribing for hundreds of facilities. If your interviews are with a smaller MTSO, there might not even be PTO. Additionally, chances are that that small MTSO will be gobbled up by either Nuance or MModal very shortly. Have you worked outside of the hospital for any of the MTSOs? If not, you're in for huge changes no matter where you are. Why do people stay here? With Nuance, I think maybe there is some sort of job security feeling compared to the smaller companies. Gone are the good 'ol days, that's for sure. Good luck!

PTO - Nuance Steadfast

Hello!

I don't think that we are going to find any better anywhere, honestly. I have been w/this company for a couple of years and let me tell ya, this is a good company. If you do quality work, have good attendance and have a good supervisor (this MAKES a BIG DIFFERENCE), you will like the company.

I started out @ Nuance working every weekend for a year (approx 10 mons)because as a newbie, I wanted in the door. Then I switched to a more accomodating schedule. I think the PTO is not bad, but not that good either because it is used as sick pay. It keeps us working w/out missing work. I notice that when my internet is out, all h--- breaks loose and the team suffers! Then, I feel guilty and come back around when I have to use PTO!!! Yes, it really does s----! But, fellow MTs, let us look at the world beyond our home desks and see how lucky we are! I don't mean to be a "swarmy" creep here, but this is how I get by when anyone, including work, takes advantage of me. We have jobs that people love to have and believe me, someone else will get it. I used to monitor the people applying for MT positions and found that w/my experience, there are about 2,000 waiting to take my position! No thanks, I will just keep plugging away and hope for the best. I am w/you on the 10 years'experience w/no recognition for it. However, it will be the work you provide w/quality and integrity.

You deserve better, I believe, for your time as an MT, but in this day and age girl, it does not get recognized. Not only as an MT, not as anything. Those days are gone forever!!!!

Look beyond for recognition. Sad, but true.

This is my opinion and I'm sticking w/it. I can't say I love my work, but it pays the bills and those will forever be. I am single, no family, no children and kick myself in the butt plenty of times because I chose such an isolated position. I'd rather be somewhere else and have maps of the world around me so I can only hope!

Good luck and keep your chin up!

Wmx/nuance Paycut Meeting, listen To Tape Shut Up Or QUIT, Nuance Attitude?
Dec 12, 2011

According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...

WMX/Nuance Changes
Dec 06, 2011

If Webmedx does away with or changes their recently advertised "PRODUCTION BASED INCENTIVE" bonus and adopts the Nuance quality based bonus then this change may be considered by quite a few WMX employees as yet another cut in pay. I’m sure that there are quite a few MT’s currently at WMX that have a high QA average and are earning $300-$400 (some even more) in production incentive pay each pay period, which equates to $600-$800 per month. As an example, acco ...

Does Nuance Really Pay Everyone The Same Across The

Is this true? Because if so that means they dont take into consideration years of experience, opportunity for increase or nothing. Seems kind of hard to work for an obviously big and successful company that is only willing to pay their employees 0.41 cpl and thats it, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
