What is going to happen to me if my QA is 99.3% - me

Posted: Apr 24, 2012

I have never had this much trouble before doing my job.  I will have 99% on those FIESA and then 1 report will be a C and my QA averages out to a "C" 99.3%.  What happens if I never get a score higher than that?  Fire me?   Cool beans!  Need a vacation anyway !!!    Seriously, what the hell is this QC crap?   How can FEISA be A, B or sometimes a C and the QC score is super low????

I think it's just so they don't have to pay bonuses.

Thats just too much stress for the amount of money - they pay. I would quit doing

MT work if I had to go to Nuance. Their QC/QA system sounds extremely stressful and that ridiculous incentive you might as well write off because you may never see it.

Just too much stress for 0.413 cents a line. I would go nuts, broke, gray, and everything else.

I honestly dont see how you all do it. Hats off to you and I hope you get the score you need.

I don't care about the incentive....I just need my job.....for awhile. - me

QA Game and How To Play - thirdshiftzombie

I currently work for Nuance as well, and I agree 100% that their QA is unfair, particularly if you have noticed the sudden influx of new QA personnel, whereas the prior QA team has disappeared? Hmmm, makes me wonder...

That being said, and I do not want to jinx myself, but it is very possible to nail your bonus every time. I stick with my main account, even if it means nursing it to get the line count daily. Going from 1, 2, 3 accounts, each with different specs, is just a disaster waiting to happen and they wait to nail you on it.

Second, when editing always make sure you do your "alt + s" combination I believe. This way, the dictation does not get garbled and you don't miss words. I hope that is the right combo, I think with my fingers on the ES screen, if that makes sense.

Now, here is the most important thing - question every audit, every correction yourself. Trust no one until you go back and review that job and make sure that QA is correct. They are human, and trust me, they make mistakes all the time. I have questioned numerous audits because each time I was marked off for either following my specs, as instructed, or I heard correctly and they did not. Each time I was right and they were not. Even if I did get marked off, they often mark you off too high. So, flag it, copy the entire audit, everything from job # to corrections, and e-mail your TL with a note asking them to please take a look, see if they hear what you are hearing, point out any mistakes that QA made, or ask if the point deduction is correct or not. Also, in ES, in the toolbar, you have the option to look at prior jobs. Go to the site, log in, and then take the job ID and search for your job that was audited. Go in and listen. That is the best way to see if your ear matches QA's ear.

They are trying to make the bonus system as confusing as possible, and the fact that when you fall below your 99%, you lose out for 3 months is ridiculous. It is all a game to them. They are seeking to monopolize the industry and in essence do away with us, as they have promised the suits at the hospitals when they embarked on their VR quest years back. We work for the proverbial devil and by doing an excellent job, we are only enabling them to thin our numbers that much more quickly.

I too am getting out after 15 years in acute care. Sadly, the higher ups think because we work from home that we are uneducated and lack valuable skills. I've been told from some recruiters, hey, you work from home in your PJs, so stop complaining. Adorable isn't it? They fail to realize we get paid for what we do, not to gab on the phone, eat, surf the net, go to the bathroom, etc. I would love to see their pay match their actual production. Enough venting, I hope this helps you fight back and win, and best of luck with your current position and your move :))

You are right about trying to stick to your primary account. It's funny how I always get QA reviews on only my secondary accounts. I think they do it on purpose. There is one account that I only do maybe once a month or so, but that is the account that they pick reports from to QA me on.

One more thing... - thirdshiftzombie

Don't stress about the A, B, C thing. I was told it is mostly for their offshore transcriptionists. Trust me, they get graded way different than we do. The only thing that matters is your score. If you get a C, then you get the box to contest it. As long as your reports do not fall below 99%, you are fine. Even if you do, you can go as low as 98% I believe, and be fine. They are not going to fire you, you simply won't get the bonus and will not get your incentive either. My check 4 weeks ago, I nailed both, and made over 500 bucks for both incentive and QA score, so it can be done. Okay, finally off to bed!

I have been 99% accurate for 7 years at Webmedx and now with Nuance 97% with ONE WORD BEING LEFT OUT. Utterly ridiculous. I urge you to write to your manager about a change in policy.

I agree, this incentive policy is not acceptable. - Losing 3 months (!) of incentive pay SM

[ In Reply To ..]
set at a standard that seems designed to make just that happen. My message isn't to managers but to all other producers of good-quality work, and plenty of it: Focus on what matters--your pay check. Do make your feelings felt now, and if the worst happens, make lost income under this policy cost the company yet another of their best workers. As soon as doable.

We should be paid incentive pay for high line counts we produce at over, what, 98.5%? quality with no critical errors. Or at a significantly lower of number of lines to qualify at the current exceptionally high standard. That's what I am used to and consider fair. AND, of course, the QA score should be recalculated every pay period.

Correcting unworkable levels would also solve the problem of spending productive time reviewing FEISA too frequently. It's a valuable tool for us--to be there when we need it for positive reasons: reviewed to get better. NOT to protect ourselves from attack or to be a weapon for them to defend their position. As it is, no one can afford the time to go over each detail to identify QA mistakes or inconsistencies that impact our scores, much less to call QA and team leaders on each item. Using this new system to protect ourselves is totally unworkable from our side.

I've been happy enough with Nuance so far, but I'm watching this one like a hawk because I personally depend on incentive pay to bring my modest line rates up to a more acceptable level. I haven't fallen through this crack yet, but if it happens I WILL be earning incentive pay at another company well before that 3 months of lost income would have been up. That's a promise to myself.

Now I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I've been checking my FIESA every day since we have had it and I have not gotten ANY reports to look at. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, I wrote down specific instructions as I watched the video they gave us about it about how exactly I have to do it to find reports, put in the correct dates to check, etc. and there are no reports for me to see...I wonder if that is a good thing? or bad thing?
I haven't had any all week. Fine for me. sm - mt2

I don't usually pay any attention to it anyway. Load of BS. Do you really think they want to pay incentives to EVERYONE who qualifies? No. That's why they pay crap wages to begin with. The incentive trap is to get you to work faster and longer and harder. Screw it.

I have checked the FIESA too, not every single day, but still have not had anything to look at since it started. I too wrote down the directions and watched the video. Doesnt seem difficult. I guess we should be grateful, one less thing to deal with :)
They ignored it so you ignored it? Come on. We cannot - force them to change their own policy, but we can

work within their system and owe it to ourselves to do just that. We're entitled to a review of contested items and should insist on a review every time we disagree. The rules give us a very, very strong advantage whenever we're right.

So much money is potentially involved here over the year that I strongly suspect people who say they will just not bother about incentive pay wouldn't qualify anyway. Those who do and just let it be taken away so easily, though, shouldn't waste energy complaining about the company until they deal with their biggest problem--themselves.

"their biggest problem -- themselves" - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
The problem here is the QA process, the inconsitency and the nitpicking. Spend a good amount of time looking at your "mistakes" (for FREE I might add), organize your thoughts, research, then take more time to compose an E-mail explaining exactly what you are disagreeing with, send the E-mail (possibly more than 1 for each disagreement). People who don't even speak English as their first language are the ones who are claiming these are mistakes, people who have no experience with the doctor you have been typing for years, tell you that you have it wrong. After you put all this time in, again, for FREE, you might hear back about 1 out of 10, and they are almost never reversed.

Fix the problem. Make clear and concise rules about what is considered a major error or a minor error and then enforce those rules with the QA staff. Do not allow them to be so subjective with their grading habits. Do not allow them to ignore one error on one MT's report and ding the same error on the next MT's report. I thought, before reading these posts, that I was the only one who was having difficulty with the QA process, but I see I am not. There are some very intelligent people in management, so why don't they realize they will never retain employees who are already underpaid if they continue this process. There are so many better ways these issues could be handled, more productively for everyone. Fix the problem. The problem is not the MT!

what is going to happen to me if my QA is 99.3% - Gone Soon

I'm not really sure what QC stands for, but what I've been able to figure out, the QC score is the percentage of reports you pend for blanks.
