So, I get a critical error... - sm

Posted: Apr 19, 2014

I'm supposed to provide feedback. Okay, fine, here it is:

It was a typo.

I sure learned a lot from your snarky auto message.

Why do you have to keep making people feel bad for making a freaking typing error?

Whoever is running the show at Nuance really needs to seek help. All you (they) can do is cut our wages and find fault with our work? It must be stupendously reassuring to be you and be so perfect.

Critical errors ARE serious. Are YOU kidding? - nm

NO, I am NOT kidding. - OP

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not going to state what it was for fear of outing myself, but it was a freaking typo, something that would not be considered critical back in the day. You can't tell me doctors and caregivers base their care 100% on transcripts. This typo would NOT have impacted patient care whatsoever.

Another thing I have noticed is there are quite a few - typos in the spellchecker

[ In Reply To ..]
My one has anulus, for example, rather than annulus. Also some drugs misspelled. Sometimes they send us emails "alerting" us - what about "alerting" the tech people, who most certainly make a lot more than us, to actually change the spellchecker?

I am just waiting for one of those built in typos to result in a "critical" error and I will contest it and how will they justify that not only do we have to correct the ASR but the actual spellchecker too? Obviously, it will be all my fault, of course, what else, but please explain to me why us lowly minimum wage MTs are responsible for everything?

Honestly, us MTs (no, I am not an MLS - obviously, FIESA, you of all people should know that, according to you I am a know-nothing who deserves never to make a bonus ever) are at the bottom of the heap.

They charge the clients for OUR work, yet they pay the tech people, the TSMs, the QAs marking our work, the FIESA developers (I can only think they are vindictive, nasty people who have no idea what it's like to actually do transcription at all), more than us. All of them. We are at the bottom of the pile and they can't even bother to do one thing to make our jobs easier, just piling on more and more stuff we have to check and watch and catch.

My ASR last week had 2013 in a lot of dates, despite year either not dictated or dictated as 2014. This is another thing I have to check all the time.

Gah. If it's so critical, fix all this garbage first, so it doesn't come down on our heads. We got enough to do to make more than $8/hr and not get a nagging about either not good enough production or FIESA errors, the two ends of the spectrum of garbage Nuance have trapped us in so we make minimum or slightly above and are forced to take their continuous nasty mental floggings.
Okay, I guess anulus is a variant of - annulus according to Google
[ In Reply To ..]
So I stand corrected and the spell checker in this instance is okay. Still, personally I prefer annulus so will probably keep changing it.

There are still quite a few typos in the spellchecker and we are still expected to catch them and the date errors and medication errors. Sometimes even though I have typed a drug many times the speech engine does not seem to ever recognize it pre-edit. I wonder if they need to be specifically entered on a master one or something and that's just too much for them.

In particular, the ASR never seems to spit out the newer anticoagulants, just never recognizes them at all, and they are used a lot, so again, it seems to be a matter that keeping the speech engine up to date with regard to new drugs is not on their priority list at all, which is kind of depressing.

My company that got taken over by Nuance used to constantly fine tune the speech engine and the spell checker and they really made an effort to make it easier for us to increase accuracy and production. Nuance seems to take over these companies, make the platform and speech engine infinitely worse, then concentrate on their real agenda, rather than helping you IMPROVE your line count, your accuracy, the goal is to pick on everything so they can reduce your pay.

No lie, I used to make over 300 lph easily and I know it was not full of errors. That's because the ASR was much more accurate and the platform was geared towards helping us MTs produce work that was accurate yet still high volume. Now I am lucky to make much over 200 lph. It seems a shame that these companies sell out and the result is an inferior transcription product and less money for MTs, I guess way more for those at the top.
ISR/Spellchecker errors - Curious
[ In Reply To ..]
Yep, I've lost points in FIESA and gotten a major error for a word that was misspelled by ISR AND Spellcheck also had the word listed incorrectly so it wasn't caught. I was NOT able to get this one reversed, the excuse being we are the editors and it's our responsibility to catch these errors. In my opinion they are little traps set in order to catch us in an error.

Unfortunately this is not "back in the day." That - may be your problem, thinking as if it were?

If things like this are so critical, why don't they - FIX THE DRAGON.

[ In Reply To ..]
There are so many ASR errors in every sentence, even when the dictation could not be more clear. How can anyone find them all?

Because it would cost them $20 to pay an IT person ... - Rose

[ In Reply To ..]
for 15 minutes of his/her time to delete the misspellings from the dictionary. They will shell out that $20. if they are in fear of a lawsuit for failing to fix incorrect data that resulted in a "critical error" but until that happens, they won't do a damn thing. They need to get more out of it themselves than to increase our productivity.

Got a 98.7% for the week...
supposed to email tsm back and tell her why...well I checked fiesa and only one report was reviewed and since it was a short report, my score was 98.7% for missing one word....TO
......no weekly bonus.
are you serious?? - newbutold
[ In Reply To ..]
I have several audits that are below 98.7 for the week and no one ever calls or bothers me. That is a shame. I had the same thing last week. A whole week went by and they only post audited 1 report and dinged me for the way I did the heading and my QA was 97.6.
They're going to fix FIESA, right! - they just pay India less for QA on less reports! n

5K, this is PRECISELY WHY I left Nuance.
They did that very thing to me over and over, only 1 report reviewed so had no chance to bring the score up. This repeatedly happened to me over 2 1/2 years and I finally had had enough. They did not want me to get "good" enough to earn a bonus and then when I mentioned it to my TL, she did not even have the courtesy to answer my email. I have been gone for 8 days and no one even knows I am GONE!!! Believe it.
I believe it. sm - mt2

I was fed up with them about 2 years ago. I took a week's vacation and then decided not to come back. I was gone an additional week, couldn't find a job in my town so decided to see if I could get back into the program. I could. I started working - no one ever called me or emailed me to see where I was or had been.

After about 15 days of me not showing up they locked me out of the email and my program. Good riddance, Nuance...

It all comes down to - Depressed

[ In Reply To ..]
they do not want to pay ANY bonuses. I was tired of QA people filling in my blanks wrong and then getting docked for other people's mistakes. That is the main reason I left Nuance.

Never thought of that... - sm

Of course, there's no way to check either. Like a poster said above, these people need to get help. How can they live with themselves knowing what is being done to us, the people who help generate revenue for their paychecks.

Got A Critical Error For "omitting Dictation Of A Critical Nature."
Jan 04, 2010

The dictator said "... will get cardiac enzymes and will get a carotid Doppler in the morning...", or something similar, I have deleted the report.  I left out the second will.  This is not a verbatim account.  Critical error for omitted dictation pertains to lab results, normal values, etc.  I didn't think the word will meets that criteria.  I also had Tylenol No. 3 changed to Tylenol #3.  The drug lists still show it as No. 3.  ...

Critical Error On Job Feedback
Nov 13, 2013

I received a notice of critical error that was in red and would not allow me to read the other feedback reports where I left blanks.  Since we have been warned so much about critical errors and how much weight they have, I was afraid to open this report.  The critical error was :  Alert an oriented (but what I should have typed was "alert and oriented."  I forgot the "d" on "and." I can think of so many other things that would have been a crtical error, like leaving out a di ...

Critical Error...my Backside!

So...I was just dinged for a critical error.  Supposedly, I typed an incorrect medication.  I specifically remembered this dictation and remembered the medication I typed, which was NOT the medication marked in the critical error.  SO - I went into my statistics for the day, pulled up the detail for that particular job and there it was....the CORRECT medication.  Somehow, the correct medication was taken out and the incorrect one was put back in.     You better be ...

Living In Fear Of Critical Error.
Jan 24, 2010

I've got this terror of critical errors.  I shudder every time I check my feedback, if I've left a marker (sometimes I've noticed they'll check the entire report, not just the marker.  Guess it depends on the MME).  What happens if you get a critical error?  Are you back on QA for awhile?  Do you get nasty e-mails?  Do you get canned?  40 lashes? ...

Since When Is Misspelling A Doc Name A Major Critical Error????
Feb 14, 2013

This is a new one to me and laughable honestly. I thought we were to spell phoenetically a doctor's name in the text if we cannot find it or verify it.  So this is what I did as usual and got a MAJOR CRITICAL ERROR for putting the wrong doc name??? WTH. Seems like they are grasping at straws now. What's the deal? We are to be mind readers now and get these names exact every time even when they don't spell, we can't find, etc. etc. Nuance just makes itself look ridiculous ...

So I Finally Got The Dreaded CRITICAL LAB VALUE ERROR
Mar 04, 2015

So 3 points off...short report....and, course failed, 88%......I'm doomed for the next 2 weeks.  Probably now way to get up over 99% at this point.   Anyway, so I went back to check on it (I usually don't bother), I was going to try to relisten (still can't for whatever reason)...but what I DID see was that the report was sent to the client with the apparently incorrect value of 0.5 still on the report.   So they find the error but don't correct it?   ...

Audits - How Can You Get A "critical" Error And Still Get 99.3% On An Audit, Thereby

CRITICAL ERRORS
