Reversal requests --why do I waste my time? - sm

Posted: Apr 16, 2015

Sent in request, my TM sent in on for next level.  Well, the powers above decided my placement of period and/or comma impacted the integrity of the record and should be scored as incorrect verbage rather than punctuation. The 1 point for verbage as opposed to .25 for punctuation makes that short report a fail.  Give us a frigging break.  Don't know why I waste my time.  Just when I calm down and think "working here isn't so bad", something like this gets me riled up again. And since I sinned and sent in a reversal request I bet there will be no more reports pulled for QA this week and they will leave me hanging here.  Grrrrrr...

Honestly... - AnonQC

I'm sorry to tell you, punctuation changes a sentence dramatically.

"Hypertension on atenolol" (atenolol causes hypertension) or "hypertension, on atenolol" (has hypertension, takes atenolol).

You should have kept the punctuation error.

How do you figure that? - I disagree dramatically

[ In Reply To ..]
Hypertension on atenolol does NOT mean atenolol causes hypertension. That's ridiculous. It means you have hypertension and you are on atenolol to me, just like hypertension, on atenolol.

Can you see how these ridiculous little nitpicking "gotchas" drive us MTs crazy? Ask a doctor, any doctor, and see what he thinks. Or even a nurse. How come QCs know so much more than everybody?

Could it be that you are encouraged to pick, pick, pick and the goal is points, points, points! Get that $ off the MTs at any cost.

Tell me how "hypertension on atenolol" means atenolol causes hypertension.

I avoid punctuation too because now we have to add semicolons and that can take a lot of time when you have a huge list of meds. I really do NOT agree with this.

ridiculous! - anon

I am now working in HIM (ex-Nuance) and I have to tell you that the medical records are a MESS and nobody cares...a lot of front end VR left unedited by the physician with horrific errors. The facility would be thrilled with accurate transcription with hypertension on atenolol, comma or not. This is Nuance's way to control and belittle you and lower your wages, plain and simple!
But how do they convince the QA/QC people - who should know better
[ In Reply To ..]
To do their dirty work of cutting our pay for them?

I mean, what's in it for them? Bonuses, not getting their own pay cut?

It is just too much garbage to take and I have to wonder how good, honest QC/QA people feel about being forced to take the hatchet to MT salaries.

My main point is that we should NOT, any of us, be it MT or QA/QC, get our pay docked for mistakes AT ALL.

I would gladly be belittled by FIESA and have to sign off on ridiculous nitpicking such as above, if only it wasn't accompanied by the horrible feeling of knowing your pay was just cut by $50-100 a week because somebody thought a comma should be there.

By all means, QA/QC, teach us, give us the rules, force us to follow them. But cuts in pay should NOT be the price we pay for such miniscule and arbitrary "errors" IMHO.
Who knows what lies QCs are being told. Nuance is not a - company known for its integrity.
[ In Reply To ..]
For every person who HAS integrity, there are a thousand without.

It is the reason they block access to this board for as many folks as possible, they do not want anyone to start sharing the --gasp-- truth!

How do I figure that? Because it's true. - AnonQC

See the "hives" post, a much clearer example.

Tip: Use find/replace for the semicolon issue.
The hives post has two different drugs - which indeed makes sense
[ In Reply To ..]
The no comma between hypertension on atenolol does NOT make sense.
And no thanks to your tip about the - semicolon issue
[ In Reply To ..]
I never use shortcuts with Nuance because I have to painstakingly make sure every single thing is as correct as it can be. If you use find/replace you then need to pick through and see which commas have turned into semicolons which should not, because you guys will "get" me on that too.

I have become a very focused computer, watching every single word in sync with the audio, trying to catch every single little error or questionable phrase, and yet still I miss things. But some of us are only human, after all, and for that I guess we deserve 8 cents per line.

I asked for punctuation error - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
THey originally had verbiage error. I asked for reversal to the lower counting punctuation. Yes, it was an error, but I still feel the downgrade to punctuation would have been more appropriate. Care about quality...my butt!!! It is all about how they can gig us for more money. Someone gets bonuses or more money for ripping us and I have to admit feelings of animosity there.

Insulin causes diabetes? - Over-thinking...

[ In Reply To ..]
So if the sentence reads, "Diabetes on insulin," the insulin caused diabetes?

It's not rocket science folks - AnonQC

How about a real response? - No, it is not rocket science.
[ In Reply To ..]
You came up with the example, please explain the difference instead of just insulting the intelligence of the MLS you QA so harshly.

I'm simply pointing out that punctuation changes the meaning of a sentence.

Let's eat Grandma!
Let's eat, Grandma!
That has nothing to do with - hypertension on atenolol
[ In Reply To ..]
versus hypertension, on atenolol.

Absolutely nothing. We all know punctuation changes the meaning of SOME sentences, but not that one.

That is the grammar equivalent of OCD, - and it is incorrect.

[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, but that is nonsense and it is completely unnecessary.

Claiming that "hypertension on atenolol" means that the hypertension is caused by the atenolol is ridiculous. No one in their right mind would read it that way. No one would over-analyze hyphens that way and everyone should know that atenolol is an antihypertensive.

It means the patient has hypertension FOR WHICH HE IS ON atenolol. Whether you include a comma or not, NO CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP is shown.

Please, AnonQC, do not think about coding as a career! You will go out of your mind if you are prone to this kind of over-analysis. And so will everyone around you.

Nobody cares about this kind of nonsense. We (your customers) would be happy if you could devote your hypervigilance to fixing the "baloney amputations" and "prostrate exams" that you still churn out, though.

Obsessing about non-errors like this is pointless, counterproductive, and borders on bullying.

Which makes one wonder why Nuance are - encouraging this hypervigilance

[ In Reply To ..]
They claim it's not to cut our pay.

If that's so, I think most of us would be more than glad to spend our uncompensated personal time reading the many diatribes of the QA when assessing our errors and taking them to heart, rather than fighting for reversals because of the drastic loss of income. IF they didn't get to cut our pay with their nonsensical "errors," that is. IF we could rely on a steady income of higher than minimum wage on a regular basis, that is.

If it's not about cutting MT pay, WHY are you doing it, Nuance?

Ever think of that, QA/QC? Why is Nuance the first company to think of this method - never before have any of us gotten our pay cut by virtue of errors every week or two, or conversely any "bonus" (even with bonuses the pay has been a major pay cut to all of us pre-Nuance) should NOT be dependent on NOT making mistakes that week.

They should either bump up the pay and insist we adhere to the sometimes ridiculous and conflicting rules they make up and change all the time. I can tell you I would gladly suck up to QA, do anything they required as a mea culpa if it meant they weren't getting to cut my pay. I would gladly go into FIESA and accept everything if they didn't get to cut my pay with it. You might get insulted, you might argue, but it would not be the impending doom and futility that now accompanies any foray in FIESA - because invariably you know the pedantic little nitpicking has just cut your pay dramatically.

OR they should cut the pay honestly, then, if they want to, award TRUE bonuses and not cuts for being error free for a week or whatever.

I personally feel that the base pay of more experienced MTs should be higher, even if they make a few mistakes that week. It is an insulting pay grid for all and it just does NOT hold up to scrutiny as anything but a means to cut every last cent of pay possible.

I really hope QA/QC do end up getting paid on production so they can get a taste of their own medicine. They are nothing but enforcers of wage theft by Nuance, whether they tell themselves it's a higher cause or what.

If QA/QC is so honorable in their judgment, why do you think there is such a horrible fluctuating pay regime for us MTs? Do you honestly think we deserve that?

You try it, see how you like it.

OCD LMAO - AnonQC

[ In Reply To ..]
Hmmm...when you OMIT words, what do you use in their place? Punctuation, perhaps? As in "Hypertension, on atenolol"? That's common sense, not over analysis.

Thank you for reminding me that I have no desire whatsoever to be a coder and that you are my "customer" (whatever THAT means).

The patient had hives on atenolol. - Hives, on benadryl.

A Big Waste Of Time
Jan 05, 2010

Got Duped again. Send my resume in, got ASKED to test, Feel I did excellent on the test, but get a mail back saying that they cannot hire me at this time. Knowing that no one ever gives you any explanation as to why you fail, I went ahead and sent a mail asking why.   The answer I received really threw me off. The answer was: "We require at least 3 years experience to hire".   My resume clearly states that I have almost 2 years exp so they made me test for absolutely NOTHING! GREAT ...

Sep 17, 2010

I just had to say that when I see a company looking for MTs and they have to test through mttest, I cross them off my list of potential employment.  What a waste of my time.  Took it years ago and would never do it again.  There has to be some other way or just look at a person's resume and phone previous employers.  If I have over 25 years of experience, took pride in getting my CMT and have tons of experience in every specialty, chances are I am a good bet.  Just venting. ...

Don't waste your time on this guy.  The test is ridiculous, and the pay is peanuts.  They are having offshore "transcribers" type GENERAL AND CORPORATE reports, and we all know how horrible OS "transcribers" are at figuring out the nuances of the English language.  Then the U.S. proofreader is going to have to fix all of the errors.  There will be no money to be made as an editor in this position.  OS "transcribers" can't even get the SOCIAL HISTORY section of a medical report rig ...

So Free With Advice - Don't Waste Your Time/money
Mar 21, 2011

On the newbie page is yet another thread with nothing but mindless- "don't waste your money/time" posts from supposedly experienced MTs. Like it or not, MT isn't disappearing.  Neither is AHDI.  Like it or not, credentialing is going to be a fact of life if you're an MT.  I'm no big fan of AHDI either, but I have paid enough attention to what's going on in the industry to know what the wind is bringing in. The MTs who do little more than bash and dash, w ...

Why I Won't Waste My Time Requesting Reversals Anymore.
Jan 27, 2015

When it is dictated that the patient had knee surgery, (a couple of other procedures), then says rotator cuff and patella surgery... would that be considered a repeat of the knee surgery?   How am I supposed to know if when he dictated this, he was referring to the same surgery or not?   I blanked it and got an error on a post audit.   If I had repeated a DX in the list, I would have been marked off for that---cannot win either way.      ...

Teamwork Requests
May 07, 2015

Just wondering if anyone knows if what we as MT's see on/in our Teamwork/leave requests is exactly what TSA/Teamwork sees? I was told I submitted a request for a certain day and it didn't show on my end, and I've never had this happen before. I was the one who brought it to her attention; forwarded emails regarding the day I did request off and proved I did not request the day off that she said I did and had put me down for PTO. Yet, I'm still told "My" mistake has been corre ...

Submitting PTO Requests For No Work Available
Aug 30, 2012

My manager is always sending out emails that we are required to submit a PTO request (pain or unpaid) for situations when there is no work available in order to account for all of our hours. I don't understand why we need to do this. I put no studies available on my time card when I clock out when I run out of work. I'm not asking for time off and so don't see why I should have to put in a request for time off when there is no work. I would be more than happy to work during these ...

Actually Got A Reversal!!
