DO something. Stand up for yourselves and others! LM - AngryToo

I know the job market for MTs is not like it used to be, but I am an ex hospital employee who lost her job to the big NuISance, too. If they continue to get good MTs for a pittance, they'll keep up their monopolystic tactics. In the time I worked for them, they ate up Transcend, WebMedEx, and Accentus (which was about the last company offering decent benefits, based in Canada). If they can't get good MTs, they'll have to mend their ways, but as long as their door keeps revolving, they're in business. We have to look at it as if we are a team and they are the opposition. Don't give them an inch. We can take down the Giant if we stand in solidarity. Don't work for them.

They were paying their "incentive" (and I use that term VERY loosely) quarterly and doing everything they could dream up to find ways to keep from paying one cent in incentives. If you went below 99% ONCE, you lost your incentive for the ENTIRE QUARTER.  Give me a break! They have so much money, though, I'm sure they pay a team of analysts to find myriad ways of cheating us out of what we've earned. They also choose all the reports with "mistakes" to count toward your incentive score, and they are very inconsistent with what is right and what is wrong. They certainly don't go by the Book of Style, and every account has a different set of rules, so it's impossible to keep up.  I have a list of all my scores they counted toward my incentive, and I divided them into which ones they did and did not include. Unfortunate how all the 100's never made it into the incentive column, huh?

They are the lowest of low, and now they are sending out emails to former employees to try to win them back! Are you kidding!? I wouldn't work for them again for all the tea in China! Or all the gold in the world! But that just goes to show they are desperate for good MTs, as they should be because this is not slave labor and we have more respect for ourselves than to work for that demeaning, demoralizing, and depressing excuse for an MTSO.

Stand with me, all good MTs of the world!

On my way... - typingfool

I know exactly what you mean. The hospital I worked at was recently taken over by this company. I was making around 45-50k a year, though I did work a lot of hours without benefits. Right now, I am in the process of looking for something else, but until I find something, I have to stay put and at least make "something." I am tired, frustrated, and about to lose the home I have had for 15 years, not to mention the new car that I bought a year ago, because I have went from the above mentioned down to about 8 dollars an hour (on a good week). It is not right, but until I can find something better, I am struggling to maintain the unbelievable 99% that is required. I too think that only the bad reports are listed in the concensus for grading us. I know there are a lot of 100% on my plate, but funny that only the post-audit count. I have a great supervisor, and all of the benefits except for the deductible for the insurance are pretty good. I love the hours I work and the work I do, most of the doctors are do-able. But, you are correct, the pay literally has sucked me dry of every dollar I had saved, is taking my home that I have worked and paid 15 years on and the first new car I had even thought to buy myself could be a thing of the past. I am single and rely only on my own income. I had been told before by my doctor that I should go on disability because of my herniation problems with my back. Even working in this chair, the easiest job physically I can imagine, is killing my back. But, I wanted to keep working, guess my pride is in there on that one. Still, now I am rethinking about it. I may have to go on disability just to be able to find a place to live that I can afford. It is sad. This used to be a great way to work.

About to lose your home - please see post on Gab Board posted - today

Prayers for you and all of us who are struggling.

This should stand for any company cheating the MT. - sm

Loved your post. Written very well, I think. This is so true of a lot of companies. They offer these incentives with very, very fine print and hardly ever pay them out. It's like they think we are without intelligence.

I tried the other large company, and I will never work for another large national again, as they do not play fair at all and just abuse people mentally. It's not a good place to be at all as it is a constant battle every day for the simple things. They simply do not care and only are looking for ways to manipulate and abuse MTs with skills and not compensate them for such skills.

I for one will never, ever, ever work for a large national, ever. If they buy who I contract with, then I will leave it. I will stand up to these corporate people. I will not be abused or be a doormat for these people any longer. No way. I'm far better than that.

The answer, get a different job in a different industry. - anon

Reality check: This job has changed and it is not going to get better any time soon, if ever.

The only solution is to retrain and move on.

Yes but if only it were that easy. What do you retrain for? - Me

business and industry is constantly evolving. There are people with Masters degrees who can't get jobs. There are high school graduates who can't even get a minimum wage job. Many jobs like MT no longer pay what they used to and many need 2 jobs to get by. How do you know what job to pursue?

Stand Up
Nov 11, 2010

I know supervisors are overworked also in this field, but I wish supervisors would stand up for their workers.  Start communicating w/your MTs/Editors and Go to your higher ups and enlighten them on a few things - simply relay information to them but first you have to get it.  It would benefit us both greatly. Everywhere I have worked, supervisors only communicate 1-way.  They don't seek input, return e-mails, etc.  I guess if your at home your out-of-site and ...

Stand-by Pay
Nov 29, 2014

I think every MT who is subjected to sitting and waiting for work that is not there should be paid for stand-by time.  Who do these criminals think they are that they can continue to use people like pawns.  If absolutely everybody would submit an invoice for all the idle hours spent waiting for work, it would bankrupt them. ...

We Need To Stand Together.
May 28, 2015

Without us VR is worthless. We are valuable and deserve to be respected for our knowledge, talent, and experience and compensated fairly for this. The powers that be will succeed in cheating us of our ability to provide for families and our dignity, if we allow it. I am going back to school and getting out of it altogether after 23 years. I see no other way. Any suggestions? ...

Don't Be Afraid To Stand Up For Yourselves...
Dec 30, 2009

What has happened to us as an MT community.  Whenever someone speaks up with anything negative (but factual) about this so-called profession, there is always someone there to belittle the person, or give the old (my personal favorite) just shut up, take it, and LOVE it attitude.  We have absolutely NO  POWER left whatsoever? Is this true? Can this be  -  in our great country - are we just lying down and accepting all that is happening. We are allowing ourselves to go ba ...

Do I Have A Leg To Stand On If I Argue This
Jul 27, 2011

as of 07/24 we all started on our "new" pay scales.  I started work this morning, first thing I checked was my stats and I have THREE critical errors and the dreaded e-mailing that I failed audit... my first ding is on a verbatim report:  X-Fix corrected to ex-fix.  Now, I know that there is the Biomet X-fix device and that ex-fix is short for external fixator, but since at the beginning the doc refers to Biomet, I chose X-fix.  This should not be incorrect or critical error ...

Okay, I Think It's Time For ALL OF US To Take A Stand On VR Pay.
May 25, 2012

Here's the bottom line, colleagues.  We're getting paid exactly what we deserve because we don't have the basic fortitude to stop it. I think, in particular, that women are abused with respect to pay and benefits in the workplace because we are NOTORIOUSLY GUTLESS when it comes to sticking up for ourselves. I had to think about this three times before the irony really struck me:  They pay us half rates for work that can be as difficult and time consuming as straight tr ...

Stand By For Further Developments
Sep 18, 2012

Just had an audit - first one in months.  Got a 99%+ but apparently I am sending too much work through to the hospital with blanks and I need to send more reports to QA.  Told them I would send more if they did not penalize me financially for doing so.  These accounts are the worst by far that I have ever done in over 40 years and I am not prone to hyperbole.  If they did not penalize me I would probably send 75% to QA.  They can accept my work the way it is, increase th ...
