Could they be taking even more pay - from us now?

Posted: Mar 07, 2014

I checked my pay stubs and, granted, I still was getting production bonus 5-6 months ago, but my pay has decreased so much, like $400-500. Sometimes I wonder what all those "delays" with "uploading the lines" are.

Honestly, this company has made me literally into a minimum wage worker. Thanks a lot, Nuance, you will soon get your wish and I will have to subsidize my income with food stamps at this rate. I guess that is your objective, more profits for you, spread the poverty so our taxes are making up for the pay you have taken from us by using us as your own personal ATMs and funneling money from hard working skilled professionals (yes we are) to your overstuffed pockets.

I can't qualify for food stamps because I own my home, but - sm

I am close to losing my home very soon because I cannot pay my mortgage on half of my previous pay. I can't refinance either because I don't make enough money to qualify for a new loan. I know of at least 3 other MLSs in the same situation and some who have already lost their homes and everything they own. This company is ruthless and coldhearted. Why can't the TSMs, COMs and HR people stand up for us? We're your bread and butter, too, you know. Come on, speak up and be an advocate for us. We make YOU look good. And PLEASE, give us work. Don't overhire and don't put us on so many accounts that we can't keep things straight in our heads.

Addendum to above about food stamps. - sm

Without giving out too much info, I would also like to mention that I live in one of the most affordable cities in America and the average rent for a 1-bedroom apartment is more than my mortage payment. I guess that will leave me homeless or living in a ghetto neighborhood.

So you dislike this why? - Never fails to amaze me

[ In Reply To ..]
What the heck is that about? Honestly, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but what about this person's poor situation THANKS TO NUANCE is worth kicking her when she is down?
Dislike - sickened

Don't take it personally, HR, specifically "L.E." is known to troll this board and dislike any true statements regarding Nuance that expose them for the ruthless company they are.
Don't worry. They'll get their dues come Judgment Day. - Would hate to be them.

As long as they sit pretty, they don't give a rip about us.
Yes, true. LE from HR is an absolute troll, warts and all. - hatethatbeotch

I wish I could be there when they hand her her walking papers, which from what I gather won't be too long.
I heard that, too. - They always "clean house"

after acquisitions. She better watch out for that karma.

It happened to me - lost my home, don't have income to do anything anymore.

I did not know you could not get food stamps - if you own your own home

Well, we are also struggling to pay our mortgage so perhaps that's a matter of time too.

I just can never get why they have to take so MUCH pay away. If they want to offshore to India, fine, do that, but don't use that excuse to cut our pay so much, because we all know we are never going to be able to compete with India and, if they were ever honest about it, they might have to admit we do have incredible expertise and skill that is still necessary and will most probably be necessary at least for another few years. Those of us left doing this painstaking difficult work should be compensated better, not worse.

I have asked and received no answer, but it seems to me that a lot of the dictators have gone to that front-end ESR or whatever you call it already, because the remaining dictators are either heavily-accented ESL that the speech engine cannot process OR the American dictators that are just a big mess, mush mouth, lazy brain, speak inexplicably fast in bursts, etc. It has gotten so there are very few enjoyable dictators to transcribe anymore.

I guess the reason I received no answer is if they acknowledge we are transcribing difficult work, they might have to acknowledge we deserve MORE for it, not less, and they would never do that.

I have also noticed that when we become overstaffed due to some other MLS account being lost or gone to ESR or elsewhere, the cherry picking is outrageous. I have seen initials on a job transcribing, then they drop the bad jobs and take other ones and I really wish they would just shut that facility down because it is just not fair. If we all knew we had to take what comes next it would be so much less demoralizing.

I have come to the conclusion that as far as the pay cuts, they are doing it because they can, for no other reason. They do not need to cut our pay to compete $-wise, they could offload the work to India if they wanted that. It is just the rule of increasing profits at any cost, if you can do it without being noticed, do it, who cares who gets hurt. The MBA at the shareholder meeting who effected all the cuts will get applauded and there is literally no one looking out for our interests.

It may vary from state to state. - sm

Another factor is if you have any type of savings account. I'm not sure what the cut-off would be. When I went to the state website to see if I qualified, I was turned down. I assumed it was because I owned my home, but it may be because I have a little savings left in the bank, or maybe a combination of both. All I know is that I did not qualify and it was NOT because of my income.

food stamps - dirt poor

[ In Reply To ..]
I own my home and I qualified for food stamps in my state. Maybe it varies depending on where you live.

I was able to refi with the Obama home program. It dropped my mortgage down by 2 points. I would definitely seek to refi. I used the stated income program and did not have to produce a tax form for the new loan.
So glad for you. - sm

I was told by the bank if I was upside down on my loan, I would have been able to do the Obama home program, but I was not upside down. I guess that's a good thing, but it doesn't really help me in the big picture. Yes, the food stamp program must vary, but it's always worth trying again. Maybe things have changed since I last checked, which was about a year ago.

II was denied before but they reversed it and gave me the single rate $15 - live in Florida, own home

[ In Reply To ..]
don't know if it was that I made so little with Nuance last year or because I had high medical expenses. They never explained why. Got a denial letter, then two weeks later received card and approval letter.

I can't qualify for food stamps.... - 7th child

Reading your post makes me so angry. I am lucky because my job is a secondary one, with my husband being the main breadwinner. Otherwise, I too would be screwed. I make half of what I used to. We have no breathing room any more, can just barely make our bills. I have two friends who HAVE lost their homes. One had to lose her condo and move back home with her 90 year old mother. The other had to move to an apartment and can barely afford that. Our CEO is a multi-millionaire and the 16th richest CEO in the country. It makes me sick how they don't care about us, we are as expendable as toilet paper.... God Bless you. I hope things get better for you. I have to keep looking for a new job but it has been very difficult.

All these posts give me an idea for a new reality TV show - see msg

[ In Reply To ..]
Seriously!

You know how they have Undercover Boss? Well we should all start a TV show called Bank to Broke. It will be about CEOs of big corporations trading places with us bottom of the barrel working schlubs. We switch places with them for a month! We get their job title, responsibilities, pay, hoidy toidy everything and they get ours. Our job, our pay, our bills, and then see if they're still sane after 30 days! AND if they quit before the time is up they have to pay us a HUGE bonus! Like alot of money! Like pay off your house kinda money (at least)!

Who's with me?

I agree. - Pollyanna

I couldn't agree more. I'm in that boat too.

Why Are We Taking This?
Jun 18, 2012

What the heck is going on here? We're being bought out and paid less than the people cleaning the toilets at the "corportate" offices of the big-three companies. We're scraping by to make one-third of what we used to make. Why? Do you actually believe these companies are charging the hospitals less? We're the only ones getting paid less, and less, and less. The hospitals are getting crappy reports, something they're told can't be helped; there's no other alternat ...

to see what Medquist was looking like.  Looks just about like Spheris to me, possibly a little worse.  Can anyone say what they are paying per line ASR and regular transcription for a mid-level account?  Clinic account?  Not sure it is worth the bother to stick around for this change. ...

Taking More Than 1 Offer
Mar 15, 2010

I have 2 job offers from 2 different companies, but both of these companies are fairly large and have multiple posts with complaints that there is just not enough work for everyone. Would it be possible to take both offers, on the chance that if one doesn't have work the other will? I might be kinda screwed if they both have a lot of work, but it might be worth it to see how both will work out without closing any doors. Has anyone done this before? Is it possible to run 2 companies differen ...

Taking A Poll
Sep 01, 2010

If you get NJA on a very regular basis, reply with what state you are in.  Apparently, some states require pay for downtime, CA I believe being one of them.  I'm not sure of the other states.  Obviously, work can be routed to or away from us at will, and I have a feeling they are choosing MTs from the states that mandate downtime pay over states that don't. ...

Taking The Plunge
Feb 20, 2011

After having been an MT for over half of my life and constantly reading these forums and realizing the shortcomings we are all facing in this industry, I'm taking the plunge. Yesterday my husband and I bought 2 domain names, ordered 500 business cards, my husband is researching MT salaries nationwide, and we're going to start our own MTSO.  An MTSO run by HUMAN BEINGS for HUMAN BEINGS.  A small one, we're looking at probably 20 or less ICs to ensure ample work for every ...

I've decided I will go through Andrews school for coding. All that I have to do now is wait until Monday to sign up and enroll. I am so excited!! Just An FYI To Everyone About The New Taking Time Off
Dec 03, 2013

without pay we were given (13 days). If you use this for NJA you will forfeit an entire day of the time off without pay, even if it's just 1 hour. The days off are not hourly. They are daily, so if you had 1 hour left in your shift and had NJA and took the time off without pay, 1 entire day of your time off without pay would be used. Looks like MM screwed us again. ...

Think About This Before Taking MM Coding
Mar 12, 2014

If you think the offer from MMoral to become a coder sounds good, think again. If you start the program and don't finish, you have to pay MM for the full cost of training, and no mention was made of how much that is. If you decide to leave MM for a coding job elsewhere, you probably won't even be considered for a job with decent pay because you didn't train through AHIMA and you will have to pay MM for your worthless training if you leave before 2 years. Lastly, if Obamacare ends ...

PTO/Taking Days Off
Apr 03, 2014

Has anyone read the rule book here? I tried to once but couldnt read through my tears! I believe I was told we can't take days off unless we have the PTO to cover it? This is going to be a problem. I have some important days coming up for my 18 year old daughter with autism, a meeting at school and an awards ceremony and some other things. This would use up the measly PTO hours I have and I would have nothing left to take days off this summer, like my birthday. Does anyone else take da ...

Thoughts On Taking CMT Right After Finishing RMT?
Apr 16, 2010

Just wanted to hear from some of you more seasoned MTs out there...I am scheduled to sit for the RMT exam on Monday, 4/19 and have been preparing for this since mid-January by taking a review course via M-TEC.  Several folks have advised me that rather than waiting the typical 2 years, I should consider studying to take the CMT exam immediately after passing the RMT.  My book skills are good, and I graduated from M-TEC with a fairly high GPA.  I have only been working for 2 months ...

Taking A Poll? How Much Time Per Day

My Reward For Taking PTO On A Sunday

Thinking About Taking My CMT Test
Sep 29, 2010

Hi All!  I am actually thinking about taking my CMT test.  I have thought about ioff and on a lot over the years.  I have 13 years experience in 3 different hospitals and 3 different well known transcription companies (I know I change jobs a lot), but often times working 2 jobs at once.  I know the AAMT Book well.  Despite my experience, I'm still afraid I won't pass the test.  I have known so, so many transcriptionists over the years and not a one of them have their CMT or at ...

Anybody Taking CMT Test? Is It Worth It?
Oct 11, 2010

I am considering it only because I keep taking a pay cut and can't afford it.  I haven't taken it before because it irritates me that it costs almost $200, plus my job can simply be sent to India overnight. I wonder if it is worth the money and the headache.  MQ supposedly will give you a (probably teeny?) raise.  I am an MME and have been stuck doing too much 100% QA, then for regular transcription usually the worst junk jobs from every hospital on the list, usually not ...
