..well, I'm really close to finishing. It seems as though, based off things said here, I've made a bad decision. Oh well, I'm almost done, so I mine as well finish and sit for the RMT exam. I actually am applying to school for respiratory therapy. Any newbie's have anything positive to say about their experiences getting started as an MT? I hate to have a negative attitude, that's really not how I am, but sometimes you have to be realistic. I'll still apply to MT jobs, but I'm not going to hold my breathe. When I looked into MT, I checked the bls/gov, and it didn't seem like it was a bad field to get into, not the greatest, but that there was still an increasing need for MT's. IDK...at least school wasn't a lot of money.

Had a friend who went to school for RT, they haven't been able to find a job, & working in a completely different unrelated field because of it. I wouldn't hold your breath for any job right now. In the area where I live hospitals are in a hiring freeze, just making current employees work harder instead of bringing more people on. I'd say the only health care job you could train for right now and absolutely find a job upon completion is a CNA.

I'm actually already a C.N.A., Medical Assist., Vet. Tech, and took all of my LPN prerequsites (and will be finishing up MT school). Resp. Therapy seems to be thriving here in Denver. I figure I'll just go for what would truly make me happy, and that is cardiopulmonary medicine. I'm just hoping the economy will get better in the next couple years, once I finish. I'm not going to just put my life and future dreams on hold because of the current status of our country, ya know? Things will eventually get better, I just want to get a decent degree for when the time does come :) Thanks for your reply!

P.S., there are a lot of jobs for CNA's out there, I'm just done with that kinda work. But yes, CNA jobs are a plenty, for sure, so anyone else reading this, that IS a good field to get into, and training is quick, plus, MT's are at such a great advantage for the simple fact of the medical terminology that you know.

I know that the MT world is starting to get difficult to find gainful employment, but I am a recent Honors graduate. Do any of the experienced MT's have any advice of getting into the business? Hello everyone. I graduated last Sept with my coding degree and intend to take my CPC or CCS certification test or possibly both eventually. I have recently graduated with a certificate in Medical Transcription and am finding it difficult to find a job! Basically, it's been working out fine until one day last week when I received an email from the transcription manager saying that was "short on my time" on one specific day. I've been all over the place today, from California to New York and everywhere in between, and not a single report from ANY of my "primaries" ... not even one. There doesn't seem to be ANY rhyme or reason to the type or location of the reports I've gotten ... it's crazy.
