finally something that makes sense - just an mt

Posted: Sep 29, 2010

... the e-mail purge: of course they don't want anyone to be able to point out all the inconsistencies in every single policy, account related or not, over the long term.

been with the Q since '01 and always thought anyone complaining on this board was here to do just that. but i stand corrected..

on the same account since '02 with so far 5 (or maybe it's five) different account managers, and every time a new one comes along, turns out i've been doing everything wrong the whole time!

just glad i'm not a supervisor, CCM, account expert, or whatever they call them at any given time; i do think they get screwed over more than us mere MTs.

i just wonder if their clients know exactly how much more the MTs actually care about providing the best possible product for their patients than the people in the organization whose goal it has to be, by virtue of their job title, to keep costs low....

I can't believe you have been on the same account - since 2002

I have been shuffled to 3 different regions, have done so many hospitals I literally could not count them all. Right now have about 20 accounts in total that I do on a regular basis. Some of them are clinics for a conglomerate, but each and every clinic has its own set of doctors, residents, students, physican's assistants, and nurse practitioners that dictate so I never get the same person often enough to come up with any "standards." Even the client profile is not the same for some of them. It is like starting a new job every day. I miss the olden days where you could get in the "groove" and type on autopilot and fingers fly and make some money.

don't make me believe i am - lucky LOL - sm

How do you stay off 100% QA, having to switch around like that? These days we have pretty much mandatory OT on my account, so maybe I shouldn't be complaining, but then again I know I'm only one of a very few that have been on the same account for this whole time, and I cannot believe that the clients are getting ever more demanding. May be paranoid, but believe that clients are being promised quality/quantity for price that can never be delivered.

Knock on wood -- I don't know except I am really - a decent transcriptionist.

[ In Reply To ..]
I have to go over most every report a second time for a complete listen-through. I just know every day that this is the day I won't make my minimum 1200 lines or will get nailed because I let a QA note go through without checking the box, but I usually manage to pull the rabbit out of the hat. I am religious and I honestly think a lot of days, it is purely a miracle. If anyone had shown me a picture of what my day would be like 6 years ago when I started with MQ, I would have NEVER believed it.

Handicap Quotient - Since 2001

[ In Reply To ..]
For all of your reasons I feel exactly the same way. Each of those reasons should add up to our "Handicap Quotient." Any time I try to tell one of my friends about what we go through with this company, they just shake their head. You'd think a job would kind of stay the same after awhile, but I feel like I've been working for a different company every year with all the changes they throw at us. With the myriad of client profiles we have to keep track of, all of the weak links that we get blamed for, the demand to keep a line quota to keep benefits, or even the ever-declining rate of pay that we are helpless to control, all add up to our handicap quotient. All of these things are distractions which limit our work-ability. I don't know of any other job other than working in an air control tower that has such constant stresses. They compromise our quality even though the demands are more. We should be paid in proportion to that handicap quotient.

i respectfully disagree - LOL

[ In Reply To ..]
... if we were working in an air control tower, we'd have the right to strike, right? (ok, well, i'm European so maybe that's just my belief) We're not taken seriously by our own employers. After all, if you get to work from home, that should be enough for you to not rock the boat. Never mind that it is so much cheaper for them to send a PC once in a blue moon and not have to worry about brick-and-mortar expenses, and employees who may band together because they actually know each other.
Yeah at least as an air traffic controller, there - are surely some benefits?

Decent wage, a raise once a year, sick leave, vacation time, 401k matches, and people validate you because you have a hard job and do it flawlessly. Must be really cool.
... and even if you don't - do it flawlessly

...there's people who have your back... if out of 1000 planes, 1 or 2 crash... that's still pretty darn close to 100% success!
Yea, can you imagine if one of them - Mistake

and they need to ask a second opinion? THEY don't get a dock in their pay like us. They're ALLOWED to ask for help if they really need it.

I guess what we all have to remember is that in our line of work, people don't die if we make a mistake, so our jobs aren't that important.
oh.... wait...
Seriously, I'm @#$# scared of flying, so please don't tell me there are instances they need a second opinion? hehe

I hear ya - Confused all the time

I have had 3 new CCMs and Quality persons (don't know what they are called now) since 2005, same accounts, but every change in command I find out everything I am doing is wrong also. For the life of me I don't know how I have been able to remain in this business for 15 years! My quality scores look like a roller coaster with every change in CCM/Quality person, LOL

I have made a habit of copying pertinent emails to my Yahoo account just in case I need them.

Maybe someone has already said this, not reading the other posts but sm - mqmt

nothing and I mean nothing ever stays the same. MQ is not consistent in anything they do and you are right you think you are doing things right and then you get told no that isn't right.

If you wait a while like the weather here in Colorado, things at MQ will change because nothing is ever right and they always have to fix it or decide it was not the right thing to do. How they have stayed in business so long I do not know and why I have been with them for sooooooo long I don't know either!

What To Do When Dr. Makes You Gag
May 07, 2011

Everytime I do this doctor's transcription (ironically he is a pulmonologist) he snorts phlegm in the back of his nose right into the microphone and will even cough from it sometimes because he does it so hard. Tonight during an 11 min. dictation by him, halfway through I had to get up and run to the bathroom because I was gagging. He did it 5 times in the first 5 min. of the job.  I once reported a doc who uses voice recognition and apparently did her dictation on her lunch break WHIL ...

Makes You Wonder

I'm sure that the bigwigs at MM are very aware of the many disgruntled and downright angy posts on this board in the past week or two. It's sad that no one in the head office has addressed our concerns, either with a company-wide email or even a post on this site. It confirms that we are truly at the bottom of the totem pole and that they just want results, not happy employees. ...

Makes Me Sick
Dec 15, 2009

I am currently awaiting a call from my boss about going salary for my position as an MT, and I have no patience , so just for fun I googled "how much salary does a medical transciptionist get paid" and I clicked on this link to one of those question/answer sites where someone asked about the average transcriptionist's salary, and what I read made me sick. This person wrote a huge answer about what is to be an MT and how they get paid and such.  This person is claiming essentially they ...
