Screening phone call - Kerri0828

Posted: Jan 26, 2012

So I passed the MedQuist test and now they want to do a screening phone call tomorrow. What goes on from there?? Will I be hired afterwards??

Yep, next step is hiring you. - anon

The screening phone call is just basic questions like how fast you type (lines per hour), shift, etc.

Seriously though, WHY? do you want to - anon

work for MQ - M Modal - whatever our name is anymore. You will get transcription initially, until you get trained in ASR, and then you will see your paycheck diminish, but good. NO PAY with this company, you cannot live on the work we get.

Shocked - mtmom

I didn't realize that people actually applied to MQ, I thought most people were acquired through no choice of their own by outsourcing, lol. I can't imaging anyone actually wanting to work there. I got out as soon as my company was bought by them.

Screening - Fairly new

They asked what my specialties were, skill set, reports, experience, education and such. Following my interview I was contacted by a hiring manager and was presented an offer. I've been on board now for about 4 months and things are going good. Don't believe much of anything you hear on here. You see the same posters posting negative things all the time. For all we know they don't even work for MQ (M*Modal now.) I filled out a survey a month or so ago and have already been contacted by my CCM to follow up. It seems they are really working on employee satisfaction. With that being said wouldn̢۪t we all like more money and better hours? Of course! But so far so good. Good luck!

Have you transitioned to ASR yet? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Or, are you still on straight transcription? The first 3 months are great because they pay you line rate or $10 per hour whichever is MORE.

Once you get to ASR, you will be singing a different tune.

And, interesting that you were contacted by your CCM to follow up on that survey. They were very specific that it was completely anonymous, so not to use phrases that might identify you.

How is that they knew it was you?

To to original person who asked the question, I was just like this 4-month person when I started at MQ also. Once you can't pay your bills, you see things differently.

Also, I DO work for MQ, but really wish I had another job where I could get paid a decent wage.

Survey - fairly new

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess I shouldn't say I was contacted in regard to the survey. I have been in contact with my CCM quite a bit from the beginning. She basically asked how things were going and how I liked MQ. Good to know about ASR stuff though.

Yep I loved it too -- for a while. - no name

[ In Reply To ..]
Then I got horrible dictators, all ASR, all BAD ASR, cesspool, and money dropping like a rock.

my friend just hired on and quit within 2 months - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
She has a lot of experience, but due to circumstances beyond her control needed to find a company and get medical insurance fast, and thought she would give MQ (M*Modal now) a try. She said the interview process was excellent, it seemed extremely well organized, and she thought the same as you, that the posters here were just "bad apples." Once she actually started working, she realized she had been duped, and experienced most of what is posted here. She didn't have even 1 full day of work, continually ran out, and had horrible communication from her managers. She found another position in another company and quickly left. I hope your experience is different, I "have" heard that different regions and different managers are different, but don't be so quick to dismiss what is written here, "enter at your own risk!"

Friend hired and quit - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Your post about your friend being hired and quitting within 2 months is a good example. I literally thought everyone on this board were just disgruntled employees and none of the happy employees came to this board. Although, that seemed kind of odd to me.

Your best bet when you are new is to STALL your ASR training as long as possible. For instance, I legitimately had to skip the first training I was scheduled for, and then my CCM forgot to reschedule me. So, I got straight transcription for about 4 or 5 months.

Then it happened. I got trained, and I hardly ever saw transcription again. Just a bunch of bad ASR.

I talked to my QA supervisor and said it was taking me longer to edit the reports than to type them. She told me the speech engine hadn't learned the docs well enough yet, and it would get better.

Well, it did get better, but it's not great. I am still only at 185 lines per hour, and that is nothing at 4 cents a line (I am tier 2. Tier 1 and 3 get paid different rates than Tier 2 I believe).

At our monthly staff meetings many of the MTs complain about this stuff and all my CCM can say is "test up."

Still, I think you only gain 1 cent per line from Tier 2 to Tier 3, although I'm not positive of that.

Since I don't have another job, I need to stay with this for now. However, I am looking.

Unfortunately, the writing is on the wall and MTs are going to become extinct. In fact, MQ or MM or whatever it is we are supposed to call them, has even changed our titles to Medical Editors.

They still refer to us as MTs for now, but with the new rebranding stuff, I think you will see that it will change us officially from MT to ME.

I remember one corporate email that came out that basically said that MQ was essentially a medical editing company. I wish I had saved that email, because I could not believe what I was reading.

I really wish they would tell new hires that the majority of the work is ASR, but they don't. Then, it's hard to find work with other companies because MQ keeps buying all of them.

Phew ... that felt good to "spew" all that!! LOL

OK ... I am now stepping off my soap box!
friend who quit - anon

I bailed from MQ a long time ago but still read here to find out what is going on. Things were much better here when I bailed!

My friend had already done extensive editing and was thrown right into it. Her comments were that she was thrown immediately into the "cesspool" never getting the same doc or type of document twice (even as a brand new hire) AND all of the work was truly horrible, bad ASR, horrible ESL, and she has a lot of experience. We all know that ESL is part of our job, BUT when that is 90% of what you get, at these low rates, you CAN'T make money! In my current job I have those horrible ESLs, but I get a mix and get some truly great reports too (and a few amazingly accurate ASR jobs on M*Modal) and that helps bring my average up.

I believe all of those well-trained ASR jobs at MQ (ooops MMMModal) go to India! That is just my opinion! Just seems to me to be the case! M*modal is not that bad, especially if it is properly used! The problem is wanting to put ALL dictators on, many who should NEVER be on ASR! Best wishes to all of you!
Thanx for advice - Kerri0828
[ In Reply To ..]
Thank you everyone for your advice. IF I am hired I would like to give it a try. Even if it is as bad as most say I am still only in it for the experience, so I can get in somewhere better. I am a recent graduate and no one will hire me without experience but I can't get that experience if I don't get hired, so this is a stepping stone. So how exactly is ASR bad? Is it like just correcting what it got wrong?? Basically editing instead of listening to a dictation and transcribing it?? Thanx again for all your help

run fast and far - MT Gone

I WAS an MT for 10 plus years. I survived 2 "buyouts," transitioning to ASR just as I was really getting the hang of typing. Then the sQuid acquired my company. My pay got "adjusted" twice, my account went to EPIC (point and click) without any warning. Having that very familiar account was the only way I made even anywhere near a decent wage, though after 10 years it was still not what one would expect for our skills. I never called in sick or with personal stuff (okay, the day my mom died I missed the 3 days), but my point is these people on here are telling you the truth. I came here when Spheris was acquired and thought they must all be whining slackers.... then the stuff started happening to me and others I knew were hard-working, dedicated, good MTs. Try it, and let us know how you feel say 6 months from now!!!

Ok - Kerri0828

If I am hired I'll give it a try. I have another job, not as a medical transcriptionist, and my boyfriend makes killer money and supports the house, so me making a ton of money isn't an issue. Like I said, right now I just need to get hired and get experience to go to a better company. I'm happy to make whatever I can, because it's more than I have and I don't need to support a family with my income. If I hate it THAT bad, then I have no guilt quitting. What are some good companies to try for?

Run Fast, etc. - Sara

I think I'm the exception to the group in that I LOVED ASR work and was one of the first to sign up for it about 7 years ago when MQ came out with it. Originally we were paid our usual line rate of about 11 cents an hour for doing it. After about a year it dropped, and then dropped more until they were paying about 4 cents a line. I quit MQ last April and spent quite a bit of time looking at other companies. They are ALL the same. They will pay 8 cents for transcription and 3-4 cents for ASR, no matter how much experience you have. I got out and am now a 9-1-1 calltaker and couldn't be happier. If you still want to do transcription, Amphion was wonderful to work for, though I didn't stay with them very long. They were very kind and helpful and it was a positive work environment. Anyway, good luck to anyone who stays with M*Modal, which, by the way, sounds way too much like Imodium to me!

Medical transcription work - BH

[ In Reply To ..]
I wanted to comment on this, because also for me, money is not an issue why I work for MQ (now M-Modal). No, I don't have someone paying my bills, but I am retired after 32 years in an office, mostly as a secretary, but some years doing other work. After I retired, I studied to be a medical transcriptionist. Then since no jobs came my way and needed extra money besides my retirement, I took temporary clerical jobs in an office, so now just doing medical transcriptionist work is good for me.

Did Anybody Get E-mail & Phone Call To Test For M-Modal?
May 17, 2012

I have been working for this company since 2009.  Today I got an e-mail to test for M-Modal. When I tried to call them back, it wouldn't let me do that, and the recording said they would call back tomorrow. Exit Interview Phone Call Today
Aug 06, 2012

I left MM a few weeks ago and today got a call. They asked lots of questions about how satisfied or unsatisfied I was with MM and I answered them all as honestly as I could. Especially when you have many MTs with NJA daily and others with mandatory OT someti ...
