Okay, the Q lost my account of 13 years, put me on new local account, just went live. All I am hearing is how unhappy the new client is and is in jeopardy, this after about 3 weeks. All I am hearing is we are sending too many blanks, need to check old reports (excuse me, after 3 weeks not many of those), reports must be perfect. Next to no client profile to go on. QA person is trying like crazy to load repository, don't blame her at all. But the dictators are not exactly trying to help us. They were auctioneers in their past life. Now we are told don't worry, ASR starting and that should help with difficult dictatators. REALLY????? Are you freakin' kidding me? Since when does ASR HELP with difficult dictators? Where is this coming from historically? Feel like I am going to explode. Feel very, very, very isolated right now, although I know I have company out there. Wish we could vent with each other. I am so, so ready just to turn off my computer and walk.

Just when I thought it was impossible for things to get worse.

This account does not allow expansions more than 76 characters, so if you finally get say an exam right, you can't copy it to expansions to save yourself the pain the next time.

I was only hired a couple of months ago with MQ. I've been working my account that whole time, which I was told would have "lots and lots" of work. Come to find out that was lie, not much work at all. I work my secondary most of the time. Now, the account is lost, or put on "global," not sure what that means. To top it off I'm not going to have my secondary account anymore either. What the heck is going on? I've been checking my reports, I do not have to send very much to QA, and my quality scores are great. However, I did notice something wrong on some reports this morning that I was looking at for samples. I notified the correct person, she seemed happy and appreciative and then a couple of hours later I get a call from my CCM about my main account being lost and I will not be getting my secondary anymore BUT they are giving me 3 new accounts?? If one of those accounts is like the one you have that doesn't allow expansions more than 76 characters, I will quit on the spot.

I've been here over a year and still have only one lousy account. I do radiology only, so hoping that's why, but still..... I still don't understand why they keep radiology completely separate from the rest of the work types. I have years of experience doing discharge summaries, H&Ps, etc., have told my CCM and got told we don't cross over. What...is payroll too stupid to keep track of the different pay rates? No wait, that can't be, its all tracked oh so well on our lovely timekeeping program. I have been searching elsewhere for this whole year. I have now startd looking into things like being a test juror for $5-$10 per case, at least I'll be making more per hour on average than I am now.

For large expansions, I copy what I want to save in Word and save as a txt file. When I need it, I open the txt file in notepad.

As far as MQ's ASR helping out with the horrible dictators, it does work well with the dictators who speak clearly!! Last week I actually had 2 ASR documents with output like it should always be and surprise, surprise - it only took me as long to do as they claimed all ASR would. Of course, if I am lucky and the sun and moon are aligned, maybe I get a document with proper ASR output every couple months.

Gone "global" means it has been offshored, not done in the US.

Can you make your expansions of 76 characters, name them and number them 1, 2, 3, to get in the full PE?

ASR helping??? Where does that come from? Someone with no MT experience is my guess. Just like "you can get more lines in less time with ASR," "I have a bridge I want to sell you," and "quality is important to MQ and that is why we are penalizing you for asking QA for help." How stupid do they think we are?...never mind, I still work here so maybe I am that stupid, LOL

Sorry, I don't work at the Q so maybe this is a stupid question, but how can they control how long your expansions are? Can you use your own expander or do you have to use theirs? I use Instant Text and AutoHotKey where I work. AutoHotKey is a free program you can find with Google. You could use that for longer expansions. It's not hard creating scripts just to put in expansions. You just have to send keystrokes. Basically, you could set it up like this: If you needed a PE for Dr. Smith, you could set it up so the hotkey was "smithpe" or whatever you wanted. You would create your script in this manner:
::smithpe:: {makes this the hotkey to call up the expansion}
Send, {put text of normal here}
return

It's that easy! Then you just type "smithpe" and your expansion appears. I could help you set it up if you need someone to talk you through it.

I know it is getting much harder to make any money as an MT anywhere these days. There are a lot of other things you can do with AutoHotKey to make some things go faster and help increase your line counts (like searches on Google, reducing keystrokes needed for platform functions like sending copies, creatging headings, etc.). It's not enough to get us back to where we were paywise, but it does help some.

Good luck with the new account. It will get easier every day. Hopefully you can find something else too if that is what you would really like. I've seen secretary/receptionist jobs that are paying more than what I am making now as an MT, so there are alternatives if you want to get out of the madness.

I wish they would pay for entering ADT info - and carbon copy keystrokes.

Usually the first 50-100 seconds of a report is ADT stuff to enter, dates of service, referring physicians, date of discharge, and carbon copy to every doctor the patient has ever seen which are always in little Podunk towns and not in the database. That would be great if I could just get paid for what I ACTUALLY TYPE IN --- let alone if we got paid for headings, even just the "HPE" or "HHPI" that we ACTUALLY TYPE. That alone would probably amount to a line in every report.

Again, I don't work at the Q, so I don't know if it is possible to cut and paste any of the ADT info. If you can cut and paste, you can make it faster with AutoHotKey and have it do it for you. If you can do it by sending keystrokes or with mouse clicks, you can set it on auto and it is less that you have to type. On one my accounts where I work the docs always put the MRN in the account number field so we have to input the ADT info. I finally got tired of doing this, so I made an AutoHotKey script that will do it for me. It is faster and saves wear and tear on my hands. I certainly believe we should get paid for doing this, but if we are not going to be paid, I would like to spend as little time as possible doing it and also do it in the least amount of keystrokes possible. I wonder if you could also make a script that would put all of the standard headings in your reports for you so you don't have to type them every time. Just trying to find a way to make the most money possible on our ever-dwindling wages and save some wear and tear on the hands.

I believe I had the same account you had that we recently lost to EMR. New accounts just went to ASR. It's amazing how they think ASR is helpful. Yeah, helpful for the company to make more money off us. Oh well, won't volunteer to help on those accounts anymore.

I always used large expansions when I worked there which was a Godsend for me. I couldn't have survived had I not done that for some of the dictators.

Remember, there's a way to get around some of these rules. And, no, you're certainly not alone.

Basically I am not surviving. I have tried just about everything, although I haven't saved normals in e-mail to cut and paste. Think I will try that.

Meanwhile I am getting out of transcribing after 15+ years. Not for me anymore. The pay is crazy.

I have said this before, my husband is a cashier at WalMart and he just about makes as much as I do these days. What a slap in the face. And he works there even though he is retired because of how little I make these days.

And I will not go crazy today. If the dictator stinks, with all the pressure on us, I will type what I can and send it on to QA. The price to the company is I am out of here. Waiting to hear on a job now. Please God.

I know exactly what you mean, and so do many others. The best thing we can do is take all the shortcuts we can find, still take pride in what we do while we're still doing it, and encourage one another. I have applications in with several companies and am even trying to get back with Medquist. It's that bad.

But we do what we have to, of course.

I have been dealing with a payment problem for over 2 weeks. I had 2 phone #s with them, one personal and 1 for my dictation machine.
