MModal, WHY???? - Thought I would stay til retirement :(

Why is MModal posting job openings, when so many of use are running out of work or worse falling into the pool--what with the pay cuts, VR being paid half even though it takes nearly as long to edit most reports, and the fact that I only get my "primary" accounts about 30% of the time and the rest of the time I am typing from the pool so that nearly every report that comes up is a new facility or dictator, I have gone from making $16 an hour to minimum wage. I cannot afford this. Why can't MModal give those of us who already work for them a chance to move the better regions/accounts before hiring new MTs?

They dont want us on primary accounts, or even primary regions. They want us to be able to do whatever comes up no matter where it is from.

They dont care that it takes longer, or that typing unfamilar doctors takes longer, or that the quality suffers. They only care about 100% TAT and that is how they are achieving it. The only way around it would be for all of us to slow down so much that they had to pay all of us minimum wage and then they would realize it is not working.

They even have a "name" for us. We are MMEs that bounce around to every MModal account on the books from the west coast all the way to the east coast. Most of us don't even have primaries (I have to be honest, I didn't even know "primaries" even existed anymore at MModal - that's how long it's been since I've had one). At any given time we have dozens of client profiles up on our desktop - we usually don't even have the same dictator twice in one day - or even the same facility twice in one day.

MModal LIKES it this way. They like us slow as molasses - it keeps their costs down. They like to keep switching our software, like to keep us guessing about what we earn, bouncing around from account to account all day, they like to pay us minimum wage, and they like to hire and hire all day long because it means just that much *more of us* doing slave labor while they increase their chances of staying in TAT and we make minimum wage. There is absolutely NO benefit to them to pay us more than minimum wage or to give us primary accounts because to make us faster would also make us more expensive.

Why NOT hire more of us? It's a very, very sweet deal for them.

I am new at M*M and was wondering if I am crazy or being picky or just plain whiny, but your post proves that I am none of the above. I cannot take bouncing from account to account like this, hardly ever getting the same dictators. Between getting used to VR and bouncing around accounts, I am not even making minimum wage. Will be homeless soon at this rate.

I really admire those of you who stick it out at M*M. I honestly have NO idea how you do it. I have only been here a few weeks and I honestly feel like I am going crazy. It's actually giving me panic attacks throughout the day and I'm not sleeping well at night because I'm so miserable.

Not sure how much longer I can take this, honestly. But I just wanted to say hats off to you all who are able to deal with it.

Kept applying and finally lucked into a job in a clinic with some transcription and some clerical that pays by the hour ($6 more than I was averaging at MM). When I even THINK about getting stressed, I zen out and remember that I am getting paid by the hour and it is not affecting my line count :) Just start looking around for something else. It might take you a year or two to find it. I thought I was never going to find a job, but it happened for me (and I am in the 50+ year-old club). There are more and better things out here. I am proof. Keep trying!!!

I've been looking now for almost 4 years. The competition for these jobs is FIERCE! Most of the time I never even get a response to my applications. I've had a few interviews, and even though they always seemed to go well, someone else was always chosen. One likely factor was that I have yet to find anything closer than an hour's commute each way. They always pick someone who lives really close. :(

But I'm not going to give up! You're right about remembering the hourly pay. If I'm going to be expected to do things like research drugs, look up words, and adhere to detail-heavy job descriptions, then I want my time doing those things to be PAID, not coming out of my own pocket.

The MTSOs keep whittling away at what they pay us. For me, first it was an across-the-board pay cut. Then VR was added. And added. Ad nauseum.

Then, instead of paying me the cpl rate I was hired at (no matter which account I was on), then changed that to different pay for different accounts. Then, of course, I got taken off the better-paying straight typing accounts, and put on the cheapest-paying all-VR accounts.

Then they stopped paying for headers and footers. Then templates. Then capitalized paragraph headings. All the while *upgrading* their system to the point where we spend more time jumping through demographic hoops than we do actually editing the reports.

I'm sure the next thing they'll stop paying for is punctuation marks.

After that, it will likely be vowels.

I'm also an MME but I'm not all over the map. I do MT, SR and QA for my boss's BOB and very rarely get thrown into the helper pool. I don't think your situation is the norm.

They also can say that they were actively hiring - but could not find enough US MTs

That would give them the "shortage of qualified US MTs" excuse so that they can ship more work to India.

Sorry for your situation, but good for me to see this, as I have interviewed with MModal....and gave the same complaints with my current employer as you are giving for MModal....and was ASSURED that was not going on there. And yes, $16 an hour to minimum wage---what's up with that? That has happened to me also. It's time to revolt! (or at least pursue another profession!) Best of luck to you!!!

I see so many complaints about MModal. Does anyone actually like them? I'm in the hiring process and they are calling with an offer. I would like to try it out. I work in-house now, but eventually my position will be eliminated due to VR. I do not make that great of pay, and have lots of down time, but still have to sit in the office all day. I know that all companies have their ups and downs. My hospital being Union makes doing anything impossible and makes it easier to keep the "bad ...

Left MModal 18 mos. ago and have been on here encouraging everybody that there is life after MQ/MM.  This week my wonderful clinic goes live with EMR.  The trainer won't even recognize transcription.  He is just adamant that the docs will enter everything themselves and when they don't, he is pushing Dragon Medical.  So I guess I was wrong.  I really thought I found a way out, but apparently not.  It was a great year and a half though.  ...

I am so sick of Mmodal.  I resigned recently and I keep getting letters to return things that I have never ever owned or received or stuff that I had sent back to them years ago.  The DEPOT apparently is as ignorant as the rest of them. SO glad I found  real job that pays, respects and appreciates their employees.  I have only one PC to return and they sent me five boxes and a bunch of labels and stating that I have in my possession 7 different things.... OMG.. what a joke!!! ...

can you specify exactly what laws they have broken?  Yes, we are all unhappy here, but I cannot see that they have done anything they cannot do legally. The last judgment against them was for witholding pay.  I think they are too smart to break laws again. What do you expect to gain anyway by suing a company that has filed bankruptcy, which is always a very smart business move to make if you can get away with it. ...

It took a stupid pill.  It skips at least a fourth of the words, uses commas and back slashes like most people use salt and pepper of course skipping the words where it puts the commas in, puts in stuff that is not even close to what is dictated.  These companies pay for their stuff to be run through this ridiculous program.  Why are the bosses allowing this low quality to come through unless they own part of mmodal.  Does not make sense.   ...
