Increased ASR, less straight transcription?? - Just Sayin

Posted: Oct 24, 2010

Anybody notice increased ASR in the last week or 2, with less straight typing.  Just when I thought I had already hit the lowest I possibly could, they do this.  I was at least getting between 100-300 transcription lines before, now all the sudden lucky to get any.  My pay has already been deposited in the bank, down another $100 from before.  What do they want next, blood?

Mine has been 80-90% ASR for 3-4 years now - anon

plus ASR is getting so horried, lucky to run my 150 lph. Pay is now about half what I used to make.

Get use to it and worse - probably.

According to the latest message from the CEO, CBay (The Indian co that bought most of MQ) is in the process of acquiring more & it was mentioned a greater push toward enhanced ASR and more technology-driven transcription something or other, which in other words sounds like more ways to cut us off. Best of luck to all of us because we are going to need it. Wonder what happens when we start making less than minimum wage?

Is MQ going to exist in the future? I am confused - by his E-mail

CB owns 82% now. MQ is just CB's puppet. - nm

Will our checks say C-Bay on them soon? - anon

???
CBAY has owned over 50% since 2006 - Nothing new here

So, I doubt they would go changing it now.
Did you read the latest CEO memo? - anon

what latest CEO memo? - Im not a CEO, and did not get memo

Heck, I dont even get MT memos anymore!
Weird even for MQ. Had a lot of links in it to - other sites.

Thanked us for our hard work like it was a goodbye letter. Talked about stock shares -- I got lost on that -- I didn't understand the whole memo very well. Just wondered if I was the only one.
Also noticed an added signature on the letter - by CEO of CBay

A sign of things to come.....

You cannot be paid less than minimum wage. - It is the law.

I am down at the bottom and sinking with more and more ASR coming my way - I think I am already at minimum wage
:( - counting the days 'til I'm outta here.
no but you can be performanced managed out for making less than minimum - NJA Queen

That is what we were told on the FTR conference call when I pointed out that for an MT making 4 cpl on ASR and taking a hit of 3 cpl for FTR equalled a 75% pay cut. Obviously my CCM did not think that was a big deal but did remind us that anyone making less than minimum wage would be performance managed and given "hints and helps" in order to increase production. I kindly reminded her that even at 4 cpl or 5 cpl at 150 lph (which is minimum) that is still not minimum wage in most states, not to mention taking the FTR hit. Just waiting for that phone call.

Corporations jockeying in US economy during "Recession" depression are destroying the U.S. - alphamt

This is what shocks me as an American. There is no cooperation with the government to pull us out of the downturn and help us U.S. employees/taxpayers support their communities with real jobs. They are expecting us to learn to live on half the salary with the threat of joblessnes. We are all becoming the "working poor". As my brother says, a rush to the bottom is occurring, Third World wages do not support a modest life in the U.S. While they can, U.S. corporations are in a feeding frenzy to get as much out of us as they can. The ones that do this do not care about their country. They are destroying it. Please VOTE on November 3rd, no matter who you vote for, and let them know we still have the time and are paying attention to the audacity of wealth and power here and internationally.

What e-mail are you talking about? - monica

I didn't get any e-mail from corporate.

Even horrible dictators are being put on ASR. I am going to F11 them. It is absolutely unfair to be paid so much less for editing ASR. It is NOT less work. Anyway, what other profession would charge less for using a new, supposedly more efficient tool? They have pushed this on us and gotten away with it because:
1. We are basically invisible "virtual" employees with no voice and basically just numbers in a sweatshop.
2. Bias against females. Think of ASR. We are forced to do it for free because "it's always been our job...?"

And now we are being paid less and less, but they demand perfection and faster TAT. Dictators are not being held accountable at all for their frequently unacceptable and ridiculous dictation habits and/or lack of basic English skills. I have started fighting back in several ways. If nothing changes, I am ditching this futureless "profession" asap.

Article - Dictation And Transcription Will Be Under Increased Scrutiny
Dec 29, 2009

We'll see how this shakes out but what it looks like, according to this article, is that security will be forefront. To me this means that the vampire squids (the suits) who live and die for widespread databases will need to figure out how they can make their systems more secure. I think they can't if they continue the road their on. See below for recent article link.  http://www.fortherecordmag.com/archives/122109p10.shtml ...

VR Versus Straight Transcription
Apr 28, 2011

With my company I get about 80% editing and 20% straight transcription, about half as much per line editing as for transcription, of course.  Personally, I'd rather transcribe a difficult dictator than edit most anyone.  My pet peeve is when a difficult dictator's reports (which used to be transcribed) gets changed to editing status, and it takes just as long to fix the VR document but now at about half as much pay. ...

Changing A VR Job To Straight Transcription
Jun 11, 2013

Sorry to bother everyone, but knew I could get an answer here.  You have a job that comes to you as VR, can someone tell me exactly what you do to change it to straight transcription?  I thought I remembered if being F11 so I did that and it said it was going to delete the text. Straight Transcription Counted As ASR
Nov 25, 2013

Noticed today that my one and only transcription report, was counted as an ASR job. What? I debated what to do, because it was a short dictation, after all. But, no I can't allow that. I have to count every penny. So watch those kinds of things, too. Check your stats, make some type of notation. Shouldn't let this type of thing go... ...

IC For 7 Cents A Line For Straight Transcription....sm
Aug 23, 2011

What Is The Going Rate In The Midwest For Straight Transcription And For VR?
Oct 25, 2012

I submitted my resume for an IC position and received an email requesting that I submit a proposal of what I expected to make per line for straight transcription and for VR.  With 20 years as an MT, I felt that my proposal was pretty fair.  I said 8.5 cpl for straight transcription and 5 cpl for VR. I received an email from the company telling me that generally thye pay their ICs 7 cpl for straight typing and 3 cpl for VR and asked me to consider lowering my quote.  I was fl ...

Potential To Switch From Straight Transcription To SR?
May 15, 2013

Hi - I have been doing acute care work for this client as an IC for almost two years. While I enjoy the work, I know it is probably in my best interest to start doing some SR work as well. The company I work for just asked their ICs if anyone is interested in learning the SR platform for some new SR work that is coming onboard. I am currently only making .07 cpl! I know that SR line rates are generally lower since the "assumption" is you can go a bit faster, can anyone give me a fair id ...

Straight Transcription, Opinions Wanted

I would like to know others' opinions on the state of "straight transcription"...is there any kind of future for it, or will the few jobs remaining gradually fade out? What Determines Which Reports Are SR And Which Are Straight Transcription?
Jan 16, 2014

I'm just curious how the clients and/or MTSO's determine this.  You'd think it would be the best dictators use SR, but we have one that is such a horrid dictator it is faster to just transcribe.   There are also some excellent dictators that come through for transcription rather than SR.  Is this a decision the doctors can usually make? ...

MTSOs - Why Anyone Would Do VR For 0.03 Per Line Or Straight Transcription For 0.07 Per Line
Mar 13, 2012

It's beyond me why anyone would do VR for 0.03 per line or straight transcription for 0.07 per line, even 0.08 stinks.  Are we all that desperate to let these companies get away with not paying a living wage?  It's outrageous.  As long as MTs send their resumes to these companies and apply for these positions, the longer it will take to bring us back to the pay level we deserve.   At this point, i'd rather starve then sell my soul to the devil. ...
