Would they terminate you without warning? - nomo

Posted: Nov 01, 2012

I am not able to log into DQS, saying my acct. is inactive.  I got an email saying to call my CCM.  I am kind of chicken to call her, not knowing it I am canned or not.  I have had good accuracy, line count, etc., so I cannot imagine they would fire me without some warning.

that does not sound good - please let us know

Very scary. Please let us know what happens.

Why are you scared? - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know why that would scare you. I have been locked out of the system many times. Just put a ticket in with Remedy and tell them your password is not working and you need a new one. If there is a problem, they should contact you.

So I was terminated yesterday with no warning, after having worked for them since they were Spheris. The reason I was given was that my production over the last six weeks was averaging around 119, which is lower than their required 120. But, here is the thing; after new CCM or whatever they're called now, came over, I started pulling work from about a dozen different hospitals with different specs and all, so that slowed me down. But, you know what? I am glad I found out just what kind of a dirty dog company they really are, and I don't want to work for a company like that anyway, but then again, maybe they're all that way. I don't even know if I can get UE now, since apparently it's my fault I was let go. It just seems unfair to me.

I think you can get unemployment. Please apply for it. If you didn't meet the production guidelines, it is not misconduct, but just inability to perform the job to their specs, so you should be eligible. Actually, I envy you. I want to be let go so I can collect.

I filed on Friday, but I read on here that one lady only received one check as MM fought it, saying it was her fault, etc. So, I guess we shall see if I get anything. Seems unfair to me to have been paying into it all these years, and this is the first time I have ever been let go from any job, so I have never filed. Very frustrated.

May I ask how much you made? - May have been too high

[ In Reply To ..]
A year or two ago a bunch of MTs were let go and one thing they had in common was that they made more than the "standard." If you are near 10 cpl, you have a target on your back.

that just doesn't make sense - downtime

[ In Reply To ..]
I can't believe they wouldn't say anything to you in advance, and then put you into their mentoring thing. And you were only 1 line per hour shy of the minimum, that's ridiculous! Not that I doubt YOU for a minute, but I think they used this as an excuse. I too came over with Spheris, and I'm guessing you were making more than 8/4. I agree with what the poster below said about a target on your back; I think I have one.

I am so sorry to hear about this. By all means, file for unemployment, and look at this as an opportunity to find work that you will truly enjoy. Best of luck to you.

To answer your question, and to my shock, no, nothing. After three years, just an email saying yesterday would be my last day. I still am in shock, as I was meeting their QA always at least or above the percentage, and my line count was hovering around 200 until the new CCM/whatever came in, and now the ax fell on me. I know what you're thinking because whenever I read someone else's post that they were cut, I thought, well this a pretty fair company, and you must have done something wrong. Well, I am here to tell you that I now know differently, and I did not screw up and I am not anyone's fool. Big, huge eye opener for me, but that's okay. I just feel bad for those who get let go and it's their only way to pay the bills, without a supportive spouse (literally and figuratively).......
I am so sorry they did this to you. - Lee

I have a feeling that I am looking at the same thing soon. Like you, I have done nothing wrong, but my new supervisor(or whatever they are calling them now) has been "overly" communicative lately....like about a posible new upcoming schedule for me that she can do nothing about and possible new hours for me and all new accounts maybe starting next week as there is not enough work for our team, since India took all my accounts 2 weeks ago. I do think that since I started getting unemployment 2 weeks ago for all the NJA, I feel like my head is on the chopping block. I have started forwarding all our emails to my home computer, just to keep them for future needed reference. I wish they would just get it over with--I refuse to quit, so it will have to be their move to get rid of me.
This is why... - mad

I keep a folder with all my audit score emails in it, so I have proof when I need it. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them.

I know being terminated is a terrible thing, but this is really a blessing for you now. You have the opportunity to go to school and learn something new or use the skills you already have to do medical transcription for another facility or private MD (Mmodal won't be able to take over everyone) or go into the dental health (dental coding, dental office manager, etc., or legal environments, such as a legal transcriptionist, or become an RHIT as I am doing now to get outta here. You have nowhere to go but up from where you were with this company. God Bless You.

I really do appreciate your kind words and encouragement right now. I am going to wait until after the holidays, and then I will decide what to do. Heck, I may take a few more months off as I have a new grandbaby girl who is almost three months old. I just have no idea why they didn't say something before now, and for instance, what about their mentoring program, not to mention that there have been so many days with hours of NJA, and then all the helper pools, and even then I was right at their required minimum with a dozen different and new accounts with all different specs. So, what really bugs me is what was the real reason? I suppose I will never know so I just have to move on.

You should try to document your production, QA performance and their written criteria, especially if it shows you have been exceeding minimum requirements all along. Your pay stubs may show some of this. Also print out anything about mentoring, and warnings that are supposed to be in play that did not apply to your situation. While things are still fresh, write up a summary of what's transpired since the new CCM entered the picture, and be specific about how the company failed to follow its own policies. I would even print out a few of these forum entries along with the links about others who have had similar experiences or have been targeted over making too much, the implication being there may be ulterior motives that apply to your individual situation.

The folks at unemployment have a very poor grasp about how production pay for MTs works and are clueless about cpl pay structures. This problem can be overcome. Be prepared to explain this both verbally and in writing (in term of weekly or biweekly dollars and cents), along with work availability issues and how the company often plays around with it. Again, this forum may provide some support for that. Talk up the outsourcing problems. It's pertinent.

If you file, more than likely you will face an appeals process when the company disputes your claim. Stand up to it and don't let it intimidate you. All it does is delay approval for about 5 weeks. I found the unemployment reps to be open-minded and fair. They are not sitting around trying to find a reason to deny you. The one I had bent over backwards to help me get approved.

I really think you have a good chance to prevail and, if you do, there will be a host of other job training programs and some funding available to you, many of them in related fields like MA, EHR and other health care tech careers. In fact, you do not have to be on UE benefits to participate in those, just registered with the workforce job search arm of the agency. They also offer a lot of help with skills assessment and enhancement (sometimes funding is available for that), resume work shops, occupational guidance counseling and the like. There are also programs dedicated to seniors if needed.

Do not give up. The process is a little nerve-racking but it's well worth it in the end. Good luck.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply with your informative post. One thing they did before I even knew what was going on was that I could not get into my work platform and right after that, could not log into email, DocQmanage, Teamwork, anything, so there is really not anything there I can print off so I guess we shall see where this goes.

Being let go is being let go. It just doesn't look good. You can get 10 more years of education all you want but what happens when you go to apply for a job with your work history being all sketchy? What happens then? I just don't know. I feel bad for those let go. I really do!

Did it specifically say CCM/TSM? - Or System Administrator?

[ In Reply To ..]
System Administrator is a catch-all phrase to contact whoever you're supposed to contact when there's a tech problem. If they mentioned the title of CCM, TSM, or the person's name, then I would hop to and do that.

Oh, I am so sorry. I wonder if this is because of them shifting more work overseas or what.

to know it is coming, but just to do that without warning!!!! Please tell us why, maybe we are all in the hot seat and do not even know it!!!!!

Don't take it lying down - so sorry to hear

[ In Reply To ..]
If you had no performance review then I'd go above her head and have a discussion, or contact your old CCM and find out what is going on. They need to review your performance, give you options on how to improve and give you a chance, many people have had multiple chances to improve, you should as well.
same thing happened to me - new but old
[ In Reply To ..]
Same thing happened to me last year with Medquist. Got a phone call out of the blue one morning saying I was terminated due to my line count not being what was required - no advance warning - I only got one check from unemployment. Medquist fought it and that was it. I now work for Nuance and am so glad to be there. Medquist in the old days was a truly good company to work for but not anymore. Nuance may have its problems but they have me on a great account and are right there if I have problems. My line count did fall down and they helped me get it back up!!

I got terminated on the same day, Nov 1 - anointedtu

[ In Reply To ..]
I got terminated on the same day. I started 18 years ago that has over time become MModal. I was told that my production was too low. I was an MME. We all know SR is imperfect and you have to catch everything the computer inserted as well as left out. Then they changed the platform 6 weeks ago. I rarely got an straight transcription. I was jumped from account to account, rarely worked in a primary. Any wonder why production would be low? I believe that is just an excuse. There is something more insidious at play here.

TAA WARNING
Oct 10, 2013

Just a warning to my fellow laid off colleagues.  I was sent for vocational skills assessment testing as a part of the process for TAA.  I mentioned to the interviewer that MT had turned into a minimum wage job over the last year or so due to outshoring and scarcity of work, and I was really looking forward to retraining and a career change.  The long and the short of it is that this was interpreted by the vocational assessment team as since I was working at a minimum wage jo ...

DO NOT WORK FOR TRANSCEND (SERIOUS WARNING)
