Imuran is an immunosuppressant, used in organ transplants also. It suppresses you white blood cells as the theory is that when suppressing/killing white blood cells, Imuran will also suppress and hopefully kill the lupus cell, which is a white blood cell that has gone wrong and turned against the good healthy white blood cells. The lupus white blood cell, hence, takes over the healthy white blood cells. It destroys the good white blood cell and becomes a black dot in the center of the white blood cell and then the lupus white blood cells attack the organs and treats them as foreign material. So, Imuran suppresses the white blood cell from attacking the person's own organs and tissues. The sore throat could be caused by it, as it makes your immune system lower so you are more susceptible to colds.
