Statistically suicides, depression and other mental health issue go up at this time of year. What with the financial pressures, shopping stress, gathering with family members you'd just as soon avoid, all the extra things to do like decorate and send out cards, its easy to start freaking out. People that have recently lost loved ones or have broken off a relationship usually feel extra bad when reflecting on prior, happier holidays. People that normally don't feel lonely start to feel the lack when family gatherings are all around them and they have no family. Commercials make you feel sad and inadequate because you can't put a new car in the driveway with a big red bow, or your man doesn't buy you romantic stuff like jewelry; or your coworkers brag on how much they got and you got very little. This season is rough on many people. |
