Even though I'm a New Englander, (originally born in Mass) I am still considered "from away" here in Maine and locals refer to people like myself as "Massholes." Most people are great, no matter where you go, but it's the few bad apples that do seem to leave the biggest impression, you know what I'm sayin?
I have a couple of neighbors who welcomed me with open arms when we moved in. They kindly invited me to attend church with them, but when I politely told them, "thank you so much, but I don't attend church," they haven't stopped by since and they no longer wave to me when they drive by.
It's hard finding a place to fit in perfectly, but we all make the best out of what we have. For me, no matter how nice a city and it's people may be, it's still mostly pavement and cars, hustle and bustle, and that much stimulation would make my brain implode. On the other hand, the people that need that type of lifestyle would probably to insane living the way I do, which is to be completely content with watching grass grow ;-) |
