If you were that upset about the dog being loose again, you would be concentrating your efforts on getting the dog impounded rather than seeing a lawyer and finding out how to settle with their homeowner's insurance. It's an easy way to make a few bucks.
Your daughter is reliving this incident because you are playing it over and over again for her. I'm sure she hears you discussing it with other people.
This reminds me of when I used to work in an office. We actually had a mother bring in a disability form for her 13-year-old, who had tinnitus or some other benign disorder, and wanted it filled out so she could start getting benefits for him.
