My sister just returned from Hawaii. She's been to Hilo many times, but this time said she couldn't believe it - it was practically dead. Because of gas costs, many airlines, bus tours, etc. have eliminated that part of the big island. She said tourism in the state overall appears to be in a huge slump. And now our ****** Prez. says he wants to open oil drilling in Alaskan wilderness, and the US's coastal towns. Considering what future oil spills will do to future tourism in coastal towns, not to mention that we have to wean ourselves off that addiction, and that sure is short-sighted. But then again, that's the problem with the U.S. They don't see the big picture, just whatever will make the most money in the shortest amount of time, and screw the future. |
