When I got married it was my first but hubs second. My sister threw me a "card" shower but stated because I have my own home I don't "need" things but a mass or greeting cards in the mail box would be nice. I live in a different state now from most of my family. I found that my family and friends were nice and sent cards, some gift cards, a few gifts just when I happened to see them next time, or a phonecall. My husband's family on the other hand sent nothing. We received a gift from one of his aunts and that was it. I was a bit offended in the beginning because it was my first and not to atleast send a card I feel was rude. The gifts, I understand, we don't need anythng and I do think that is greedy. If nothing else they could have given to a charity in our name. At any rate, maybe these are some alternative ideas for your cousin if she wants to do something, but not sure what might be appropriate. My sister just sent out postcards when she did the "card shower" and it had something clever about showering us with good thoughts and wishes. |
