except for one thing...people, and I mean adults as well as children, have been calling other people names in public and private for as long as the world has been around. I remember when I was a child and had to endure name-calling. I was told that old proverb -- *sticks and stones* and you know the rest. basically, suck it up and deal with it. get a tougher skin, etc. and that meant adults, as well. Yes it is rude, and yes, way back then, parents tought their children to respect other people and property. Parents do not teach respect so much any more. I agree they indulge their children way too much. Kids these days have no idea how to work for the things that they get, or to appreciate what they are given. However, back then parents were ALLOWED to discipline their children and respect was forthcoming from that discipline. I am not talking abuse, by any means, but parents these days cannot hardly even raise their voices to a child without interference by the government, much less a good ol' fashioned spanking. Kids know this, these days, and they use it to get what they want, or think they want. The schools had their own form of discipline back then too, but mostly did not have to use it, as the parents were the primary disciplinarians. IMHO schools these days do not have the child's education at heart, but only how much they can get in government funding by having one more child in such and such a program. If I still had school aged children, I would also be considering home schooling, where concern for whether a child can read, write, and multiply still takes precedence over fashion, popularity, and sports. but again, this is just my opinion.
