I started having lower back pain/tailbone pain with leg numbness about two years after I started doing medical transcription. It came on rather suddenly while I was being treated for hepatitis C, so at first I thought it may have been caused by the interferon injections, but I could find no evidence to support that and eventually came to the conclusion that it was related to all the sitting. I would guess that thousands of MTs have the same problem and that eventually some enterprising lawyer will see the opportunity for a class action suit. We would not get much money, but it would serve notice to the transcription industry that sweatshop production standards are not going to put more money in their pockets in the long run. |
