Sometimes mothers whose children have not yet reached teenhood or adult hood are in for a very enlightening and awakening experience.  I have a son the same age.  I would be afraid to get on a subway my darn self if I did not know anything about it - which I don't.  Good luck to your son and I would make several practice runs like other poster suggested.
