I just adopted 2 at once, and the smaller dog was absolutely driving me nuts with his behavior. I've never had a small dog before, and I wasn't equipped for one with a terrier-like personality. How he could be so untrained at 3 years of age just blows my mind. Kids can be the same way; some have a more easy temperment than others, and if you end up with a terr(i)or, you need help from somebody with experience with that personality.

We got a better baby gate to control his movement, which is something you can use on a child, too. But what also helped was bringing in a trainer. I had learned this from raising a previous puppy that to have an expert come in and witness the behavior and demonstrate proven techniques was extremely helpful. Of course with a dog it's training in leash walking. I already knew the importance of wearing a dog out, but it was just impossible with the way he was seemingly purposely getting us all tangled up.

Do they have anything like that for children? Would that be Dr. Phil?

It's only been about 2 weeks, and things are smoothing out here by using a few tactics. I really hope parents can get help the same way dog owners can. It makes all the difference to ones sanity.
