"NEVER go in a cave - EVER!" If you do, it will collapse on you, trap you in the dark, and kill you!" (All this because of a tiny little hole in a very large boulder that we used to sit in, and we called it "The Cave". Well, she kept drilling that into my head, and then (I'm dating myself, now...) the summer that "Tom Sawyer's Island" opened at Disneyland, my parents took my siblings & me. We went to Tom Sawyer's Island, and at one part was a fake cave you could go in. It was a one-way cave... you were supposed to go in one side, and come out the other. It also had all these fake wind noises, moans, etc. in it. Pretty scary when you're a little kid! WORSE, here were my parents taking me by the hand and trying to DRAG me into that cave! I had enough distrust of my parents that I was certain they were trying to KILL me. About halfway through the cave I broke away from them and bolted.... of course going out the "In" side of the cave, against traffic! Once out, I recall I ran and hid in the bushes for AGES... and my parents ended up spending hours looking for me. |
