doing the motion slowly, smoothly, with good form? It is very important not to use any momentum in the movement to protect your ligaments and tendons from damage and pain. If they feel too heavy when you slow down, or if your form suffers, then less weight is recommended.
You're on the right track.
A little running probably is good for your bones if your joints can handle it, but I doubt it's important to be able to run the whole distance, you know? But when walking, of course speed is important. I usually try to go around 3.7-4 mph when I used the treadmill. I have huskies, and they are "specially trained" to give me an upper body workout when we walk! Ha! (Dog training joke, but I do continue to have strong arms and abs by walking these 2 nuts). |
