Nursing can be very emotionally draining. You are often on the front lines of the battlefield, fighting to save lives, frustrated at not being able to be in 30 places at once, often losing the battle..often provided with few tools and/or help. Hospitals do like to staff as few team members as they believe can get the job done; often this skeleton team is not sufficient. The skeleton crew is stressed further when someone is out sick, or there are several serious emergencies going on at once with the patients. You can never predict or be prepared for every surprise scenario that comes your way. You leave at the end of your shift feeling as if you just didn't do enough. |
