With the company I work for now, we aren't allowed to even speak in meetings if we don't have the CMT, and only 2 people have it.  On the job boards for QA, they are wanting CMT only.  I agree it's not necessary at all and I've seen CMTs who couldn't type a simple H&P, but looks like I'll have to have it or continue to be a nothing.
