It's time to take action against all of the companies who refuse to pay us what we are worth.

On May 1st and thereafter, if you have any sick time, paid time off, whatever,

Until these companies pay us what we are worth !!!!

You cannot change the "global economy." What you can do is leave the field to the ones who can adapt to change. You obviously are in the wrong line of work! I would suggest going to school to become a politician, because like them, you have been in all of our faces for weeks and also just like them, you are ANNOYING!

You have to be young and did not read your history book---I lived it. It does not work. You hurt yourself. Do we have a union? No. Does anyone care? No. You have people who will kiss up to management to get adhead and they are right there to see you fall. Human nature, especially in THIS job, is to feel like you are better than the rest. We get no respsect, so any way your fellow employee can...good opportunity. There are those that get the good work and the 'favs.' Less stressful to be a fav. it's called "critical mass" - and it takes time to build that. I would jump on this bandwagon in a heartbeat if I knew we were organized enough as a large group to pull it off! This company continues to take from us all the while nit-picking us to death!

Oh, yeah, and I can hardly wait to see what our M*Modal 'benefit package' looks like for the coming year, IF they offer one at all! I know that I am going to have to remove some of the "before tax benefits" like Flexible Spending, IRA, just to put food on the table.

Really?! We have a Union for Medical Transcriptionists?! If so, I would seriously like to have the contact information!!! Each one of us posting our disgust over what is happening here may want to contact them as well...we have to unite in order to make any kind of strike/grievance committee effective so corporate will take notice...apparently our supposed "town hall meetings with good ole buddy Vern" just makes for more corporate speak as far as I am concerned and it means NOTHING to me. Show me some money for a job well done, not more "promises" to look into things...

Years ago, I thought AAMT would elevate the profession and CMT would bring better salaries; however, that certainly is not what has happened. The profession has gone downhill and the MTSOs are getting richer and the MTs are getting poorer. While there is much discontent with the decline in salaries and being treated like slave labor, we need a solution! Perhaps finding a union to represent us could work. Does anyone know how we would go about finding representation?

If this solution doesn't look feasible to you, would you be willing to offer other solutions to the problem?

lies. Our country is in the financial position it is in because of greedy corporations, greedy politicians, and offshoring of any job that can be offshored. US workers have lost any power they had to negotiate, starting with NAFTA, which was put into law under Clinton. Do not blame the workers, all they want is to make enough money to keep up with inflation and to be able to provide for their families. In the last 30 years, 1% wages have gone up and up, the 99 percenters have stayed the same. Think about what things cost 30 years ago. I was able to rent a nice 2 bedroom apartment for myself and my daughter with no financial stress, take care of any and all costs related to providing for her, no problem. I believe that apartment was about $300 a month, today it would cost over $1000. How can people survive? They can't and that is what this is all about. How about the SEIU union? Would that be appropriate for MTs?

The only thing that is ever going to change the pay for transcriptionists is changing the law.

I don't think any amount of strikes, days off, deciding not to work, and so forth is going to do much good. JMO. For every underpaid transcriptionist (and I'm one of them), there are 100 more people waiting to take that job. Even the best transcriptionist is replaceable. The only way I think it will change is if the minimum wage law for employees is changed somehow so that they can't get around the "loop holes" with the timecards and so forth.

your state and federal government officials instead of calling in sick on May 1st. If our delegates in the congress and senate get enough letters from us, I believe they will look into the situation, and that would do more to further our cause than calling in sick to a company who obviously doesn't care about us anyway.

If you are writing a letter to someone in Congress, keep it simple (only 3 well-written paragraphs). Tell them what you are being paid, that it does not meet the minimum wage requirements, and that somehow the companies are able to get around the minimum wage requirements. Tell them about this web site, so they can look at what is being posted by many transcriptionists who are likewise suffering at the hands of these companies. If your company offshores work, tell them about that. Then tell them what you want them to do about the situation.

Another thing you can do is to call your local news station and see if they will do a story on the plight of medical transcriptionists. Also, tell them about this web site, so they can see how many people it affects. Sometimes those local stories will get some national attention if it will be of interest to enough people on the national level.

These are just some other ideas to consider that might make more of an impact than calling in sick. I have just recently written letters to my state and federal government representatives. If I get a response, I'll let you know what they say.

change all the wrongs in MT. Open your own MTSO, get clients, deal with the clients, ask for a fair wage from them, and offer your MTs a fair wage. That is how you will change things, not this sick out.

Wouldn't that be a wonderful thing to organize though? instead of 'paybacks' by way of strike - what if groups of 20 or so gather up (that equals a lot of groups), have conference calls, democratically pick a leader, buy hte 20.00 licence, have all MTs signed up and ready to go while not quitting their day job, democratically set guidelines, syncronize with all other groups doing same - then every single person on board hits the clients at once in their repective cities, literally going facility to faciity soliciting AND getting our point across direct to the clients, and take the work. Not forgetting to share the wealth as in sharing leads with the other licensed groups of MTs, all working as one. Eliminate the frigging competition and bidding wars.

Just a fantasy - but more fun than anything else offered up lately.

Here I am, getting shuffled around in the 'cesspool', a dozen unfamilar accounts. You have your decent accounts with just the basics. Then, you have the CPs that are a long as novels and, if you miss something, you will hear about it, the fact it is in the CP and you shouldn't make such a mistake. I already spend so much time reading CPs, that I then get warnings that my production has fallen. So much for a consistent layout of CPs. I have to hunt for desired PE format, etc... ...
