Negotiating rate of pay - Curious

Do any of you negotiate line rate, and if you have, has it been successful? I've tried, not worked or not gotten a call back. Is it advisable to do? After I take the test, I'm told I did great and am offered the job, then try to negotiate their abysmal offering. TIA

Problem is, you have so many MTs that for each job listed there are hundreds of applications and most can easily pass the testing process. If you won't accept their pay, then there is another MT standing behind you that would gladly accept it. Just the way of our times.

If you are not new at MT'ing and have some years under your belt, this is ESPECIALLY important.

You tell them, "With the experience and professionalism I bring to your company, I am worth xx cents per line." Then you can go on to tell them about how you will NEVER be MIA, you will clock in and out at the times they request, and you will show up for work, every day without fail, and work your fingers to the bone.

If they still hem and haw at what you think you're worth, tell them you will show them what you've got for 30-60 days and will work for what they initially offer. Then, after they see you weren't blowing smoke up their hiney, you expect to be compensated what you stated originally or very close to it and if they agree verbally to this, tell them you must have that agreement in writing as well.

I've done it and found I was respected for it and I got what I wanted/deserved. You can do this :)

but, of course, I know it won't work with all of them. They are still some out there that value experience and dedication to what you mention, great work ethic and professionalism. It's just so demoralizing to accept what they offer! Thanks for the advice. Very good advice.

I recently read a job posting that required 150 lph for straight type and 225 for VR - Does this make sense ? These companies are using the excuse that we should be able to produce "twice as many lines" with VR - thus - HALF the pay. On a report to us today that someone had a 700+ LPH rate. When I questioned it, I was told that they didn't know how that could be either, it was on the management report they got. If QC is over 10%, then the pay is 7/3.5 pennies a line. If it's that amount and the speed is just about 100 lines or a little over that an hour, I think that would amount to below minimum wage, wouldn't it? So I think the 7/3.5 pennies a line pay rate automatically is equivalent to MUP--unless the MT is very speedy. 7/3.5 pennies a line pay rate is pretty ridiculous. During this transition time I was trying to decide between IC status and employee status. I was doing this because I thought that being an IC would save my 1/2 cpl decrease that you get with employee status. However, in my packet, my rate is now 9 cpl, down the 1/2 cpl as mentioned, but the choices were still FT, PT or IC.
