Hearing loss/rheumatoid arthritis - ronni

Posted: Oct 28, 2009

Anyone out there have any hearing loss? I have developed significant hearing loss. My ENT has encouraged me to keep transcribing, with the use of a boosted headset and I am trying. Telephone use is very difficult and almost non-existent. Boosters do not help. Also diagnosed recently with RA and having difficulty with my fingers, but not letting it get me down. I am on treatment that is working well. Just wondered if anyone else is having any of these issues and how they are dealing with them. Thanks!

for many years now, takes weekly injections, but she doesn't have any more hearing loss than I would think to be normal at her age. I wonder if it could be medication related? I would certainly get a second opinion and a third if necessary, to insure a correct diagnosis for starters.

thanks - ronni

Thanks for your reply. Sorry..I did not mean that the hearing loss was RA related, however, it is worse and I believe it is due to methotrexate use as one of my treatments. I just meant that I had both of those and it is a challenge to keep working, but I really want and need to. I hope your mother continues to do well with her RA. It really is a challenge every day. doofus me. Guess I jumped to conclusions. I am impressed that these 2 issues haven't stopped you from working. Hope you can continue to manage well. You give me hope that if I develop RA that it's not necessarily the end of MT...wishing you the best...

I do not have either but do know about use of telephone - Lara

use in that the telephone company can provide you with hearing amplifiers or even a texting type set up for those who are hearing impaired. There are services available when it comes to the phone service, ask. I work in animal rescue and recently my coworker got a note from the telephone company from a deaf person and it was in text message.

Rheumatoid Arthritis.

"The patient gives a good history of symmetric inflammatory disease with onset and stiffness that are consistent with a s/l seenya rheumatoid arthritis.  She does not have a significant family history, but she is a smoker, which is a known risk factor for developing RA." I'm unsure if the dr. is changing her mind midsentence and wants to say "that are seen in a" or if she's saying "with a seed of" or something completely different.  I thought she might be saying "senior" but ...

Check Rheumatology Labs, Including Rheumatoid Factor, Anti-CCP
Sep 08, 2010

This patient could possibly have gout, fibromyalgia, OA, RA, psoriasis...among other possibilities.  "Check rheumatology labs, including rheumatoid factor, anti-CCP, ANA, sed rate, CRP, CMP, CBC, Lyme.  The patient had a s/l 'dipsticks all the time.'  Check an ACE."  The doctor did pause after "had a" so that may not be part of the sentence.  In that case, it sounds kind of like, "The patient gets sticks all the time."  I'm not sure if either makes sense.  She does mention ...

Empty Arthritis?
Aug 03, 2013

An ESL is enumerating the surgical risks of hand surgery. He lists osteoarthritis and what sounds like "MT arthritis". I have researched many kinds of arthritis and the closest I can find is enthesia-related arthritis which appears to be a child ailment and the patient is not a child.    ...

S/l Ageefacee Joint Arthritis

Doc says: "Patient has some s/l ageefacee joint arthritis." In googling I found "age facet joint arthritis" but I have no idea if this is right. Can this be right? Who pronounces "age" as "agee"?? I also thought "facet" was pronounced as "fah-SET." This doc is not ESL. He is usually clear as a bell. Does anyone know what "ageefacee" might be? Or is this guy yanking my chain?? (Yes, I'm paranoid <g>) ...

Not To Count My Loss
Nov 05, 2009

why at the end of every shift do I still bother to calculate my line totals - transcription & VR - when 9 out of 10 times I am only discouraged???  Its not my lack of skill, knowledge , speed or anything I have done that determines this loss.  Why, oh why, do I hang in there.  Maybe for the occasional good day?  The high I get when I can fly through a report of an ESL doctor, because I know better what he is trying to say?  Or maybe its the constant editing with ...

Loss Of Benefits
Jan 13, 2010

Okay, I may be dense, the rest of you may have figured this out long ago!  Many times I see comments here about people who cannot get enough work.  Well, at my company, if there is a low volume of work and you cannot meet your line count you are placed on part-time status and cannot regain full-time status until you have met your commitment for 90 days.  Yes, you lose your benefits....your health insurance, paid holidays, dental/vision, etc.  Well, heck, look at the money the ...

Fat Loss In Hands
May 18, 2013

Hello, this may be an unusual question, but I have been transcribing for about 3 months now, after completing 12 months at Career Step. I've been noticing over the last week that my hands are looking almost like skeleton hands. It's like the fat is disappearing and the bones are becoming more prominent. Also, the veins in my hands are becoming very, very vascular. They are about the diameter of a drinking straw. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this common with excessive typing? I ...
