ANY HOSPITALS IN THE COUNTRY HIRING IN-HOUSE? - bearskins

Posted: Jan 04, 2012

I was wondering if there are any hospitals that are hiring full-time transcriptionists for in-house transcriptionists -- not MTSO companies -- but actual hospitals or clinics.  I might be willing to relocate.

With the ever present risk of Epic, you would change your - life, knowing you could lose that job SM

at any time? MT profession too shaky to do complete life upheaval. All too likely you would just get settled in, only to be told, sorry, going with Epic. You are now without a job.

There are hospitals who still employ on-site MTs. I see advertisements in my area from time to time, but you have to be quick. Try Indeed.com and if you can, obtain a national hospital directory from your library and search the on-line job boards of the hospitals in the cities where you would want to work and live. I work on site for a large clinic but we've had a hiring freeze for years and we're low on work since converting to Epic. Relocating is a big deal so think it through very carefully. Just because it's on site, there's no guarantee your job is going to be safe.

a hospital in my area that was hiring transcriptionists. I got called for an interview. Then I heard the dreaded "Are you familiar with VR? We are switching over to that. It is through Nuance." Well,I told her I decided not to interview because I already know that once they are in the door, the hospital will sell the transcriptionists out to Nuance and I will be in the same boat I am in with a different company.

I think it is time for me to get out of this industry. Between Epic, VR and the Indians, we've lost our profession. Home Depot is hiring near me. I think I will apply there.

Companies like IC status because they can get rid of you like yesterday's trash. Rather than the rosy "rah-rah" picture the Epic cheerleaders paint, it wouldn't surprise me if our workforce shrinks by 80%, and if Medquist has anything to do with it, count on the remaining 20% to be off-shore.

If someone has a staff position now and is facing unemployment because of Epic/VR/off-shore, I'd collect as much unemployment as I could while going back to school. I'd make sure someone pays for my being displaced by this new "great" technology.

I am here to confirm that my hospital is going with EPIC and my job as an MT is being phased out as of 01/13/2012. I would not recommend anybody to go into the field of MT. It is a dying profession at best.

Found this on CL, go figure.. It is Part time only from what I can see. Not sure if they'll take remote people, but it's worth a shot, eh?

For A School Paper: What Are Hospitals Paying For In-house MTs Currently? Sm
Jun 28, 2013

I have to compare 20 or more hospitals in different parts of the country. I only need the state, not the city or name of the hospital. I am supposed to list the hourly rate and if there is an incentive plan. I know that these jobs are getting more and more rare, and I know that I probably won't be able to get one, but I really want to get a good grade on this paper, and I don't know where else to ask. Thank you in advance. ...

Country Bouncing Hospital
May 23, 2012

Okay, many months ago my area lost an account overseas because, according to the CCM, there were way too many blanks and the client was not happy.  (Why they would think going overseas would make the work better, I don't know).  Not too long ago, that account has come back to US soil saying that there were still getting too many blanks.  Once again, they are complaining of too many blanks from the US MTs. I'm thinking that maybe the blank problem has nothing to do wit ...

Guys, WHY Are People Across Our Country And Around The Planet
May 01, 2012

Don't think today was that big? When was the last time this happened? This is remarkable, and it is the beginning because it has to be. International business has institutionalized exploitation and ruthless profiteering to the point that there has to be change. Notice that other countries are no longer willing to be where companies go to pay pennies instead of dollars? This is good! This is something BIG building. Look for quiet ways to take a stand now and plan to find a way to build our ...

Working While Visiting A Foreign Country

Hi All, Because of family "emergency" I may have to go overseas for a few weeks.  I'd like to keep working because I don't have any leave available right now.  I'm wondering if any of you out there have ever brought your laptop and worked from a foreign country.  If so, were there any technical issues?  I know some websites have their access blocked from certain parts of the world and I'm wondering if DocQScribe and DocQManage have any issues like that. ...

The "Blog" Mentality Is Something Our Country And Industry Should Fear
Jul 18, 2012

There is a discussion below about blogs. I've felt for a long time that the whole idea of blogging has some danger flags. First, bloggers talk to us. They represent one philosophy or present facts from one person's viewpoint. Readers can often reply, but any dissenting viewpoints are quickly shut down. Independent thinking is discouraged in a number of ways. We are told what to think, what movies or TV shows to watch, what jobs we should take, what books we should read. It's usual ...

In-house Job
Oct 14, 2010

I applied for an in-house transcription job in August back at my old pre-MQ hospital.  They decided the work load was too light (they had lost Radiology) and we not going to fill it at that time.  Another position has been vacated and I got a call from a friend that they are definitely filling it this time.  There were only 2 qualified applicants in August.  I am hoping the other person found something great already.  I have my fingers crossed, am nervous, and need ...

Does VR Get Better If Kept In-house?
May 16, 2012

Have any of your hospitals purchased a Nuance VR product that they've used for their in-house transcriptionists?  If so, does the VR quality get better and better since you have a limited number of MTs doing the editing?   It's not my hospital but one I know of that's starting with this new product, so I'm not sure of the exact product name.  I've worked for a huge MTSO where the VR never, ever improved in the 9 months I used it; but with soooo many MTs m ...

Why Don't Hospitals . . .
Aug 22, 2014

. . . and larger medical facilities hire disenfranchised MLS to dictate their doctors notes instead of sleep deprived nurses and residents who can't put 2 words together???  I'm not saying all RNs and residents dictate poorly, but in my experience a huge proportion leave a lot to be desired.   What with the doctor and nurse shortage, doesn't it make sense to utilize the MLS' command of medical language?   It would free up the nurses for nursing, the ...

In-house Job Not So Secure

My job could be in jeopardy because we might be merging with another clinic, and there are no other local in-house MT openings. I've been working in a specialty clinic (in-house) the past 5-1/2 years. Even though I have 5 years of acute care/radiology experience and 1 year of multi-specialty clinic, and even though I took the M-TEC course and graduated with 98% about 3 years ago, it doesn't matter because I don't have recent acute care experience. Okay, I can unders ...

In-house Clinic Pay
