I've worked there going on nine years now. I started out full-time for the first year. Then I went to part-time to help take care of a sick family member. I stayed part-time for a few years as there were no full-time openings (workflow wise) available, but since I was living with the relative I had been taking care of, I didn't really need the extra. Then I went full tiem for two years (pulling in $70K a year). Then they announced pay cuts and restructuring, so I knew that I wouldn't be able to afford my newly purchased condo and car, especially since the flexibility was taken out of the schedule, which meant I wouldn't be able to get off and get back on at a later time if work was low. So, I found a full-time job at a hospital and dropped MQ down to 16 hours a week. It was my intention to do this until I paid off my car (will be this fall). This was working out okay, until they announced even further pay cuts and then that I had to work more hours per week (I was told 20 was the minimum). I now have inconsistent workflow, no primary accounts, and minimum wage pay.

In the meantime, my mom and I were in a car accident, so I was off work for six weeks. MQ refused to give me my PTO for that time, stating I didn't ask for it with 30-day notice. They are now being sued by me for it. I have since had two surgeries, and each time I am off for a minimum of two weeks. My last surgery was in April and I took two weeks off. I found out after the fact that I was denied medical leave and I got an email telling me I am expected to make up 35 hours of work without pay to reimburse them! That's not even legal. So, I am currently in the process of filing labor complaints. Grrrr!!!!

In any case, my intention is to quit MQ at the end of September when I am supposed to be getting my insurance settlement, unless I can find a way to afford it before then.

I work with at least 10 people at the hospital now that used to be MQ transcriptionists that have all quit within the last two years.
