It's probably not the most ethical thing, but I don't think too highly of MQ's ethics, either. When I took a new job a few months back, I had 2 computers. I liked MQ's computer better b/c it was faster and it was a flat screen. I also have kids who liked playing on our personal computer when I was working.
During my transition months, I worked on my PC for my new job and MQ for MQ. I finally gave MQ my notice a month ago. I continued using my PC for a week or 2, thinking I would hear something from MQ soon about sending back their computer. After 2 weeks of nothing, I figured the heck with it. They didn't care about me anymore than they did about their computer, so I just decided to use it for my new job. It's been a month now and I just got the paperwork from MQ to send back their computer. Of course, I'm going to send it back this week, but I don't feel guilt over using their computer for my new job for the last month or so.
So, I say if you need to use their computer, then use it. The worst that can happen is they fire you for misuse of company property, which I doubt they would because I don't think they watch the computer usage that closely.
For those who want to bash me for my ethics, go right ahead. You won't bother me one bit. MQ hasn't cared about us for the last 2 years or so and I'm not going to lose sleep over them. |
