Be smart. I think it is imperative that we become proactive. Do not feel helpless. Take the bull by the horns. You be in control.
1. If you don't feel like you have marketable skills beyond transcription, get some. I have a degree which I have never used and truly don't feel like I ever will. I am heading back to school.
2. Start saving $$$! I can't stress this enough. I think Suze Orman says we should have about 6-8 months worty of pay in savings to fall back on in case something should happen to our job. Whether or not you lose your job or have to start a new one, a several month cushion is the way to go to deal with the transition and potential loss of earnings. I'm going to start ebaying all my *collections* sitting around collecting dust. I know 6-8 months of pay seems like a lot to me right now to save but every little bit will help offset.
3. Start doing research now on other potential companies that you might want to work for and when you decide you have had enough, you will know where you want to go.
I am choosing to look at it this way. I am using MQ right now instead of them using me; it's a symbiotic relationship. I still make pretty good money (except for this week...what a disaster it has been) but I will be ready when the inevitable happens.
