about a year ago this was because it was found out that records of patients in the US had been viewed by many people who had access to them because they were being typed overseas. This is not new and this has happened many times. Our files are not really protected that well here. Even doctors in the US have put patient files in storage and other information because they either stopped their practice or left the area. They were not given back to the patient's, but left out there for anyone to look at.
I agree that there needs to be more said about this in the media and people should be made aware that even though there is HIPPA, these records, when done overseas, are not protected documents, and someone is reading your personal information, getting every personal thing on that page on you, SS#, address, phone number, credit card info, insurance info, etc. It is truly scary. |
