No child left behind is a joke. I have many teachers in my family and extended family and they hate it. It is a HUGE joke, nothing but memorization and tests, menorization and tests, just enough crammed down their throats in time to test, test, TEST!!! They don't have time to really teach. Yes, lets dumb down EVERYONE so that NO CHILD looks less intelligent. Well, guess what? There has ALWAYS been less intelligent people and really bright intelligent people. They do mainstream everyone, including mentally handicapped. My daughter teaches third grade and she has to deal with several mentally challenged children in her class, take up extra time trying to explain things that they will never understand, all for the sake of trying to MAINSTREAM a child. How unfortunate for those children. They should be in a class like they were when I was in school....taught by a special ed teacher who understands their needs and abilities. My daughter is so stressed with these children. She realizes it certainly isn't their fault, but also realizes they are pushd far too much to do something they just are not capable of doing. God made us all differently....too bad the No Child Left Behind thing is screwing all our children and leaving EVERYONE behind. The children who can learn are being held back to allow for those that just can't learn. The other poster was correct also.....kids graduating from high school today COULD NOT pass senior graduating tests given in the 50s and 60s. They are babied for the most part. In my town, the city schools are dumbed down and if it weren't for the advanced placement classes, the above-average learner would be far less educated and would never reach their potential. Our government needs to butt out of the classroom and let the teacher teach properly. Other countries are not putting special ed kids in the regular classrooms and we wonder why our country is quickly becoming the dumbest country in the world....we rank soooooo low in science and math, it is embarrassing.
We were classified when I was in school many decades ago (30 year reunion this summer). Those that could learn faster were moved ahead and placed in classes were they could learn at a faster pace. I would have been bored out of my skull if I had to sit in classes where they were teaching math, science, and reading at three levels below. How would that help our country prosper? |
