Americans. This was all new to me as well. I'm in my early 50's. Learned about it about 10 years ago. Lots of the best reads are by an ex-school teacher of the year, John Taylor Gatto (sp?), I think. Basically, to sum it all up, government eons ago created public education to just form mass producers, as in assembly line workers, and mass consumers - worker bees, to be blunt. So, the masses ship their babies off to school at 5, now younger, and they are just taught how to conform, stand in line, and not think for themselves. Its very interesting, and very true. The ivy league and private schools were for the kids of the elite, who run the world. Thus, my entrance into homeschooling, which has worked for my family. But very interesting stuff and more evident every day. |
