That's why we don't discipline kids properly anymore. We're too afraid of shattering their egos. They didn't give these kids self-esteem; they gave them a free pass to treat others with no respect. I grew up in an old-fashioned home. My parents didn't take any smartmouthing. There were rules and consequences when I broke them.
Kids today are lazy. I have 3 sons and they act like it's a crime if I tell them to put away their clothes or pick up their toys. They want an allowance for getting good grades. I don't think so. I might treat them to ice cream or McDonald's on report card day, but allowance isn't something we do in our home. No one pays me to do the laundry or wash the dishes. We all mess it up, so we all clean it up. I'm teaching my sons how to take care of themselves and someday they'll appreciate me for that. |
