they're not going to let anyone feel bad about how not-smart they may be. Also, athleticcs take up an inordinate amount of time. From 6th grade on I had 3 hrs of homework nightly, and I also played an instrument and had to practice. I still managed intramural soccer, which is NOTHING like the over-parentized sport it is these days.
As far as my brother, he is average, and damn well proud of it, expecting the world to fall at his feet. I think a lot of the poor attitude I see on this board comes from the feeling of entitlement that comes with the new generation of educational priorities.
If my daughter had not had a mathetician for a father, none of her classmates would have ever learned any arithmetic-math after the 5th grade. He taught her, and she taught them. |
